Reader Requests: transmimission repair, dental work, sewing machine repair, and exterior door installation

You guys totally pulled through on last week’s Reader Requests post!   If you need to know where to find Fels Naptha soap, cherry chips, dutch-processed cocoa, California style pastrami sandwiches, taco pizza, cheese curds, and cornish pastries in Colorado Springs, you can find out here!

This week, we’re going to cover recommendations for services, and we’ve got a pretty good list.   Jump right in with your recommendations for local providers.   If you can, it would be great if you can provide examples of pricing, since a lot of these requests are from people looking specifically for a good deal.

Kathy needs a good transmission repair shop – her car needs transmission work and she doesn’t want to get scammed.   Another reader, Alice, wants a reputable repair shop for their Dodge Durango – she, too, doesn’t want to get scammed!

Several different readers need recommendations for affordable dental work!

Denise says she “bought a Brother sewing machine that I love, but I haven’t been able to find anywhere local that has parts, repair, etc. in case I need those. I tried a place online, but that didn’t work out great since I got parts that don’t fit right.”

Jennifer is looking to get quotes from a reputable person/company who installs exterior doors.

Got a recommendation for any of these services?   Just leave a comment below!   By the way, when you leave a comment, your email address remains private, and if you don’t have a website, you can just leave it blank!

If you need a recommendation for a service, or have a hard time finding a product here in the Springs, email me (springsbargains@gmail.com) and I’ll put it on the list for a future Reader Requests post!

Repair shop – Tire world at Academy & Dublin was highly recommended to me, we had to have several reapirs done this year and they have always been fair and resonable.

Transmission shop – Carl from Tire World recommended Best Western Transmission @ 6157 N. Academy. When we (me and my daughter) went in, they told us the transmission was fine, no repairs needed. I think a lot of shops may have taken advantage and found something that needed to be done. I will go back if I ever need to.

I work in the downtown area of Colorado Springs. Several of my co-workers and myself take our cars to Al DeMark on the corner of Tejon and Costilla for repair. The first time I took my car in for repairs (check engine light), they were very friendly, explained everything (what they did, why, how long it took, how much labor cost, and how much the parts cost) and if they saw something else wrong, they quoted me a price, stated if it had to be done right away and were not pushy for my business in the future in any way. I would suggest Kathy give them a call. I have not heard one bad comment from co-workers in regards to service that they have received from Al De Mark.

I highly recommend Facinelli motors in Palmer Lake for any auto repairs, services etc. We have used Tom for years, he is fair & doesn’t try to nickle & dime you to death with the line, “well, we saw that this needed repair, and you should consider this too …” you get the gist! He is willing to do what I would call “patch jobs” to keep your car running … in other words, our 15 year old car wasn’t worth what a “dealership” mechanic wanted to do, but Tom would keep it going until we were able to part with it into something newer!. Yes, Palmer Lake is a hike, but after bad experiences here in town, we opted for someone who came highly recommended to us!

For the sewing machine, I bought my Baby Lock at Myers Sewing on La Salle (near Academy). They do repairs/sell parts, and have been great to work with. VERY knowledgeable. http://www.myerssewing.com

  5. Janet says:

I have several Brother machines and you can get them serviced at Meyers Sewing Machine. Babylock and Brother are made by the same company, and they used to be a Brother dealer. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. If you are in Pueblo, Pueblo Sewing Center is an authorized Brother dealer.

  6. Kacy says:

I highly recommend Peak Vista Family Dentistry. They can set up a payment plan for you and the dentists and front staff are phenomenal. I have always been very impressed with them.

  7. Valerie says:

We have had great luck at the Comfort Dental at Stetson Hills and Powers, though our favorite dentist, Dr. Kilgore, there left last summer. If you are looking for a great pediatrican…his wife, Cara Kilgore at ABC Pediatrics in Briargate is fabulous!

  8. Alisha says:

I second comfort dental at stetson hills and powers. My dentist if Dr. Miller. He is great.

Car service, also tire world at Dublin and Academy. I never feel taken advantage of.

  9. MB says:

For a dentist: My whole family goes to Dr. Tim Stacey (Academy and Lehman). We all really like him. It’s a small friendly office and my kids LOVE him and especially Judy who cleans their teeth. He’s worked with me through replacing fillings, a dental implant, root canals…I wouldn’t go to anyone else. My kids have seen him from their first appointment, and they have absolutely no fear about the dentist at all. (Unlike me, I’m a huge scaredy cat about anything dental.) His number is 599-0949, and you can tell them that MB recommended them. (I’ve sent lots of friends and relatives to them in the past, and that probably says more than anything else.)

Aspen Auto Clinic is a great place to get work done on your car. We’ve been taking our cars there for over 5 years and they now have 2 locations: 1619 N. Union Blvd. and 4401 Mark Dabling Blvd., Unit 40. Their website is http://www.aspenautoclinic.com.

For dental work, Dr. Andrew Miller of The Center for Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is the best dentist in town in my opinion! He’s very easy-going, very knowledgeable and the staff is equally wonderful. The address is 1714 N. Circle Drive; website is http://www.smilecos.com.

  11. Beth says:

I really like Dr. Diane Reck’s office (north end of the springs). They’re super nice, the kids and I are all really comfortable there. I haven’t compared prices, but if you pay on the day of service without having insurance, it’s 10% off.

  12. Becky says:

I agree that meyers is a great place for sewing needs!
My husband is a mechanic so I know of a few good shops in town
Elite Automotive is where he is currently. They are on Platte east of Powers before PAFB.
Courtesy Automotive. Awesome shop and great employees. My family still goes there even without my hubby being there. Located off of Colorado between Colorado and 24 on 8th street.
Academy Car care in on La Salle( in front of meyers sewing) is also great.

  13. Rick says:

For car repairs with an honest, ethical, expert evaluation every time see David at Metric Motors on Platte at Union. David’s ethics and his shop’s repairs are beyond reproach. They provide a 1,000,000 mile guarantee with all of their repairs and they stand by what they do more than 100%. Talk to any of David’s customers they extremely happy to have an honest, expert mechanic.

  14. Michelle says:

For car repairs, I highly recommend Bear Automotive on Chelton Loop.
I won’t take our cars to anyone else.

  15. Krista says:

For a dentist, I really like Dr. Bashi near Dublin/Academy (528-8292). I canceled my dental coverage through work because they offered a cheaper plan. You get a discount on their dental plan if you pay up front, and for larger families. The office staff and hygentist are super friendly. I don’t get much dental work done, but my husband does, and we both find the rates very reasonable.

For a handyman, or to help with doors as requested in the orig. entry, I like Fred w/ Sand Creek Remodeling (964-8162). He is extremely thorough and completes every job as if it were for his own home. He is a man of many trades.

  16. Kim says:

The N. Acadmemy Comfort Dental office (522-0800) has competitive prices (often a fraction of the price you’d pay other places). The staff at the office was great. It is located at 1634 York Rd (just south of the intersection at Woodmen and Powers). Dr. Lovejoy is personable, funny, knowledgable and works with children and adults. First exam with x-rays is $19 without insurance. They have their own insurance plan if you are not insured or underinsured. Their number is 522-0800

  17. Julia says:

Great dentist: Dr. Tom Slack (392-8596), 2504 East Pikes Peak. http://www.drtomslack.com. Very gentle, conscientious, friendly, and doesn’t “over-prescribe.”

For automotive stuff, we’ve had good luck with Tire World on Powers, near Palmer Park. Handyman: Hank Bolton, (Woods-n-Goods) 231-0949 or hbscc@peoplepc.com.

Mechanical stuff (furnaces, a/c and the like): I’d like to add a shameless plug for my son, Derrick Evans (Evans Mechanical) 482-6712. http://www.evansmechanical.org

  18. Roxanne says:

I’d recommend Hellem’s Auto Repair off of Mallow Rd. They’re VERY reputable and will be upfront with what they find, what you want, and won’t do the work until you okay it.

  19. Sheryl says:

We have no insurance and we found a great dentist. It’s Dr. Parkin, he’s on B St so pretty far south. Not a great location as I’m by the Citadel, but worth the trip. His number is 576-1730. A short story…my daughter was terribly afraid of anyone that had to touch her. I got his card in the mail for a discounted first visit. He saw her anyway and it took about 5 minutes for her to become attached. She loved going to him even asked to go whenever she didn’t need to go! And everytime she fell and hurt her teeth, she was ready to go see him. He was able to do work on her teeth and she never once cried. I completely trust his crew with my family and happily would recommend him.

  20. Sharon says:

I know this is an old post, but I just went to a new dentist and had to recommend him. Since I have insurance, I don’t know about pricing if you don’t have insurance, but Dr. Nielsen is very personable and took a lot of time to answer all my questions. I believe he is just starting to build up his practice and did my cleaning/exam/x-rays etc himself as his hygenist only works part-time. He is located off Garden of the Gods and Centennial. http://www.colorado-springs-dentist.com/
