Here we go with another round of Where Can I Find in Colorado Springs!
Beth wants a good in home daycare provider somewhere in the southeast part of the city for before and after school care for her kindergartener.
Ronda needs a local source for Squeaky Shoes for her toddler (size 10 and up).
Kathy needs an affordable, general handyman for various household projects
Mary would like to find a good exterior house painting service – she said she’s getting wild and crazy estimates from the few companies she’s tried, and can’t seem to come across someone reputable and bonded and insured.
Mary would also like to find a good butcher near Austin Bluffs and Academy.
Paula recently moved here and wants to know where she can get kaffir lime leaves, tamarind, lemongrass, galangal root and miso paste.
MeLissa would love to know where she can buy Anderson Erickson cottage cheese – she said she it’s a Midwest brand based in Iowa, but would love to find it here!
And, I would love to know where I can find pasteurized, whole eggs (not egg beaters). I used to use them to make Caesar dressing but haven’t found them in a long time!
If you’ve got a recommendation or know where to find one of these items, please leave a comment below! If you personally provide one of these services, please feel free to “recommend” yourself, but make sure to put your contact info in the comment because I cannot put you in touch with the requestor.
The answers to a lot more “where can I find” questions are in the Reader Requests category. If you’ve got a request that’s not answered here nor there, please email me (springsbargains@gmail.com) and I’ll put it in the next request post.

We just had our house painted by Greg Unseth Painting. This the 2nd home we have used them for. Tony did an EXCELLENT job. All workers have been with company at least 5 years and the lead painter at least 10 years. They are the “hands-down” the best painters in town. They stand behind their work and will come back anytime there is a problem with the paint. Also, they only use Sherwin Williams best quality paint.
Paula, I think you should be able to find miso paste, galangal root, etc. at the Asian Pacific Market on Platte, just west of Powers. It’s HUGE. I wrote a review of it here: http://springsbargains.com/2009/02/asian-pacific-market/
I second both of these recommendations. Greg Unseth company painted our house about 3 years ago and came highly recommended by a friend who had used them several times. They painted our 2 story house plus a shed in the back yard, using 3 colors, for just under $2500. Sometimes you can get a discount if you agree to have your house painted during a slow period for them; we had ours done in March. Phone is 719-550-0445 and website is http://www.gregunsethpainting.com
The Asian Pacific Market is a wonderful source for all things Asian; I’ve also found tamarind at the Rancho Liborio Mexican grocery store on S. Circle Drive. Carrie also did a review of their store:

These guys did our office with nautical colored stripes last year, but I think they do exterior as well. They did an awesome job and will use them again. Tell them Kim and Frank in Briargate sent you.

Kathy, I have used Joe Struska for handyman services. His phone is 719-210-7480.
Just FYI, Joe Struska is no longer in the business.
We just had our house painted by Brush Brothers — the guy’s name is Rick Bergles (473-8239). They did a great job and he reallys seems to know what he’s talking about.
I am in the Property Management field and I can say I feel for Mary in her search for Painters. We have had a terrible time finding people to paint for us. The estimates for the few people you can get to come out are through the roof! Greg Unseth Painting gave us a bid and it was 4 times higher than the others, needless to say we did not go with him. The owner of the property gave up looking and we still have not had the building painted. I would suggest looking online at Angieslist.com and see if there are any painters on that site with good reviews. Good Luck Mary!
For a butcher, I think you can’t beat Andy’s Meat Market. It’s on Platte, just east of Circle. A short drive from Austin Bluffs and Academy, but well worth it. They’re friendly and accomodating and their prices are competitive.
My husband is a handyman. He has over 10 years experience. I think he is good at what he does and obviously his boss does too because he got a raise 2 weeks after he started instead of the required 2 months. He is also going to give him another in 2 more weeks which will be the total of 2 months, if that says anyting about his work. His name is Jesse Evans 719-375-8760. He does any kind of remodeling repair or even new construction.
I know a terrific, inexpensive handyman! His name is Clifford Masters at Master Craftsman Connection. His number is 719-660-0517. Our family uses him for EVERYTHING and he has never done us wrong! Try him. You won’t ever need anyone else.
I am offering childcare in the Southeast area of town. Please contact me at heckler45@msn.com if anyone is still looking.
Thank you for the suggestions on the painters – I’ll check into estimates for all these, and take a look at that site!
MB, thanks to you as well, it’s been a tough find for a good butcher and I hadn’t heard of this one. Definitely be making the drive!
Mary,
A good friend of our does painting; I think exterior and interior, but you’d need to call to make sure about that. His name is Mike Bloss. He owns his own business and I will vouch for his integrity! I don’t know what he charges, but again you can find that out when you call:
572-9044
My daughter has been with the same daycare provider since she was 8 months old, and she is now 10 1/2. Email me if you would like more details on the lady that watches her. wvdown2tn@aol.com.
My Husband runs a construction company called Dreamcoat Enterprises that can do anything from minor repairs in the home to painting homes. House painting comes with lifetime guarantee and he uses Sherwin Williams paint. Anyone interested can call him at 719-659-6729 and his name is Ron Hooper
Carrie, I definitely second your recommendation of Asian Pacific Market. For the things you can’t find there, particularly for Indian cuisine, try http://saigrocery.com/default.aspx on Vickers east of Academy. I had a list of ingredients for some recipes from Monica Bhide’s new Indian cookbook, “Modern Spice”, that I was trying to find. Wandering around the store struggling with the unfamiliar ingredients, the owner/manager personally stopped what he was doing and helped me locate everything I needed!
I just recently had a whole interior paint job of a 2,000 sq ft house completed by a wonderful team led by George. George is a retired veteran and his team did a great job, turning my VA repo home purchase into a move-in ready beautiful home. He finished on time and did all that he described and then some – even hiring a cleaning crew to clean up the home so it was ready to move upon completion.
George’s number is 719-200-7167.
