I’m testing out a new “deal rating system” on the weekly grocery deals starting today! My hope is that it will give you a better sense of what’s a good deal and what’s not – and just how good of a deal it is. Here’s the scale:
1 = Not even sale price, don’t touch it
2 = Buy it if you need it
3 = Decent price, comes around at least fairly often
4 = Great price, buy enough to last awhile
5 = Stock up big time!
I plan to continue the weekly grocery posts that same as usual – highlighting just the good deals and making sure you know when something’s not a good deal even when the store tried their best to make you think it is! I’ll give each item a rating and then add notes if necessary.
Of course, I’m taking for granted that you understand that a rating of FIVE for lettuce means it’s a really really great price, but that I don’t mean to try stocking your freezer with fresh lettuce! And the same goes with meat, of course, unless you like to buy it and freeze it for later.
So, I’d love to hear your feedback! Feel free to leave comments on any of the weekly deals posts and let me know what you think. It’s in beta right now, so I’ll see what works and what doesn’t and then go from there.

I like the idea – I can look at a quick glance to see what’s worth my time in going to each store.
I love this! It is great for those of us who aren’t as savvy on the target prices for various items!
This sounds like an awesome idea. I love all of your comments on whether a sale is actually a good deal or not, so I think I will really appreciate your rating system.
Excellent. I still feel new to the area and this makes it super fast to know what to put on the shopping list this week and which store to head to. Thanks – you do a fabulous job!
Sounds great to me!
Awesome idea I love it!!!!
Love it! The rating system is a quick way to check to see if it is worthwhile to stop at that specific store. Thanks. I really appreciate all your efforts to keep this site going.
Great idea. I don’t know what I would do with our you guidance. thank for all you do. I think i’m getting the hang of thing My mother what me to teacher her how to coupon. I think I’m going to have go to one of your classes. thank you !!!!!!! I hope your felling better.
Quicker for you and easy for me. A winner. TY
I think it will be a great system, once i get used to it! Really, pretty simple- good for you for finding a way to make this easier on yourself!
I think it’s a great system, because then I know what is a good deal, because I’m not a familiar with what is a good price vs. a bad price for some items, so I like this. Good job.
I am so glad you finally did this! THANK YOU!!! Now I really don’t need Grocery Game for sure!!! You rock!
How do you file your coupons so that you can retrieve them when needed for the current sale.
I can’t find some that you list for King Soopers ad right now.
Thanks
You can watch the video tour of my coupon organizing method here: http://springsbargains.com/a-video-tour-of-my-coupon-box/
If you file by insert, you can use the “coupon database” link at the end of most grocery posts to see if you can figure out what date a coupon came out.
I presently file by insert ( and cooresponding date). I do not cut all the coupons I just file them until they come out on a list (like yours!) that says it is a good deal and then I buy. Is there a more efficient way to store them? I have my children cut the ones I need and was trying to avoid having them cut every coupon. I did find the database but, it is slightly time consuming as well to look up each one, which is when I began to wonder if there was a better way that I wasn’t thinking of. Maybe a combo of the two would be good? Thanks for your advise.
I think my way is the best! ;) Seriously, though, the time saved by not clipping them on the front end is lost to me when I have to go through and find the particular inserts and then the coupons. It’s hard to take whole inserts (and scissors) into the store with you, and even if you find that works OK for you, you have to figure out a way to store your catalinas, blinkies, and printables.
I’ve just found it works best to clip all or most of them right away, file, and then use as needed. Lots of people file by inserts, but I’ve converted quite a few, too! :)
