Time for another round of Reader Requests – you ask for a recommendation on a service provider or where to find a product locally, and we all pitch in and help you out! Check out past Reader Requests features for even more local recommendations. Here we go!
A couple of people would like to find a place that offers good, inexpensive pedicures! Wow, that sounds nice – someone help those ladies out so they can get a pampering, please!
Jennifer wants to know where she can get a good eyebrow wax.
And another Jen says her husband is desparate to watch football but they don’t have cable and they don’t get local channels where they live unless they get them through a cable provider. Can anyone help her out with some cheap options?

For eyebrow waxing I’ve used Regis and JC Penney’s (both at Chapel Hills Mall). I’ve never had a complaint with either place. Regis is the less expensive one of the two.
I go to Springs Nails for my pedicures. Springsnails.com
I love them, they were recommended by a friend of mine. They prefer appointments but their prices are reasonable. I call and make an appt and they always take me in right away. I dont care for other places that you call and make an appointment and they take walk ins first whether you have an appointment or not. I believe the website has a coupon for $ 5 dollars off, making a pedicure 20 dollars.
A great place to utilize for pedicures and other beauty needs is the local beauty school. Their list of services can be found here: http://coloradosprings.csbeautyschools.com/clientservices.html. They also give an extra 25% off every Thursday for any spa services! It’s worth it!
Go to Smartstyle in the 8th St. Walmart for your eyebrow wax and you can get your mani or pedi at the nail salon next door to the hair salon.
For Jen and football games, her husband might head to Buffalo Wild Wings and grab a $3 beer to watch the games for the day. They are all on there on all different screens.
For Jen looking for an eyebrow wax, I can’t remember the name- but it is the newer place on North Academy (on the corner of Voyager/83) in the shopping center with kinkos and dollar tree. A woman who waxed my eyebrows there who was so meticulous and made sure there wasn’t a stray hair out of place. Probably wasn’t more than ten dollars.
Personally, I get all my nails and waxes done at lavendar nails on Briargate off of Powers (in the shopping center with King Soops), conveniently located next to Massage Envy where you can get your first HOUR LONG massage for 39.99. They try to get you to schedule a second massage at the same price, but I did not. One was great for me!
We don’ have cable either and have friends that don’t have a TV. Both of our husbands have enjoyed justintv.com. I don’t know how user friendly it is, b/c my hubby works it, but it seems pretty simple. One note though: there are certain games that they can’t show because of ownership rights…I think Monday night football is one of them. But I think we’ve had success with college Saturday and NFL Sunday. Hope that helps!
My husband watches Monday night football (we don’t have cable either and only ESPN carries Monday night. Sunday football games are on national stations like ABC…) at a local sports bar. He usually goes, orders an appetizer and soda and watches the game. It’s much cheaper than NFL Ticket!!! Sometimes a couple of friends go with him and they shot pool or whatever.
I second Justin.tv when you can’t get to a TV – the hubs can hook into it deployed and many many games, shows and others are broadcast for free. It’s very user friendly.
I have had pedicures ($25) and brow waxing ($10) at Hot Nails
3952 N Academy Blvd # B, Colorado Springs, CO
(719) 591-1899
They’re very friendly and do a great job.
For sports watching, Old Chicago (several locations in town) is a great place. They have regular happy hours with $2 beers and discounted appetizers and they have a special football happy hour menu (only available during the games) that is pretty inexpensive. The one on N. Academy and Austin Bluffs is my favorite. The wait staff there is brilliant!
I haven’t personally been there for this (anyone?) but an ad for East Coast Deli (there’s one at Powers & Stetson Hills, another off Tejon downtown) advertises a free buffet with drink purchase for Sunday and Monday night football. Says they have the NFL ticket.
I would also recommend the International Salon and Spa Academy at Vickers and Academy. The students do a nice job and its fairly inexpensive—-(and you usually get to keep the bottle of nail polish). And yes, on thursdays their spa services are 25% off.
I would try mastercuts at chapel hills mall. They do eyebrow waxing really inexpensive $9.95, and if you need multiple waxes, they discount for multiple areas (such as lip and eyebrows for around $14.. which is a pretty good deal.
I use The Salon Professional Academy (TSpa) for waxings and other services. You can get a wash, cut and dry for either $10 or $12. It is a “beauty” school. They are watched over really well by instructors. I have always received awesome service and great haircuts, facials, pedicures and manicures. They are located on Austin Bluffs in the same shopping center as the ARC Thrift Store.
The term “cheap” pedicure must be relative. =) In CA I could get a really nice spa pedicure for between $14 and $18. Has anybody found a place that will do them in that price range?
There are no places here that offer pedicures for that low unless you go to a beauty school. There are more salons and more competition in CA so the prices are less over there then over here where there are not as many salons. Also if you live along the coast then the weather is generally nice year round so they get more business year round and can offer lower prices vs. here where it gets cold and snows during the winter so salons don’t get much business. I used to live in San Diego and when I moved here, I was amazed at the prices too.
Thanks, Sarah… that totally makes sense. I’ll have to try one of the beauty schools!
