Stephanie is interested if there is a place here in Colorado Springs that sells goat meat – it’s been in the news as being the new “healthy meat” lately and she wants to try it!
Sarah says she wants to find reasonably priced water bottles (about $5-6) with straws. She says she just wants them to be cheap and doesn’t care if they are BPA-free (which cost close to $20!).
Kelly is looking for Alexia crunchy snacks (potato-chip like). Many stores sell the Alexia brand frozen potatoes, but she can’t find the chips or similar products!
Anne wants to find “Some Dude’s Fry Sauce” – it’s made in Salt Lake City and she said she was able to purchase it in Montana but can’t find it here.
And one more sauce request: Cari wants to find Gates Hot BBQ Sauce locally.
Wait, one more sauce request: is Salt Lick BBQ Sauce sold anywhere here? They’re based in Texas and have the best sauce ever but I’m not sure it’s made its way up here yet. If you know, my husband would be forever indebted to you!

We have found good water bottles that are BPA free with straws at Target (N.Carefree/Powers) in the sporting goods aisles. I can’t seem to find them online, but they have come in a variety of colors, hold about 16 oz. and would be good for a child or adult. They are $4-5. The last one I bought was in the school supply section, but the first one was from sporting goods, and you may also want to check in the cups section by the kitchen stuff. Our favorite straw bottles are still Camelbacks (from REI, Dick’s, Etc.) but these suit us as kids tend to lose things.
I’ve purchased Alexia crunchy snacks in the chip aisle of King Soopers (Stetson Hills) by the specialty chips.
Alexia crunchy snacks are at King Soopers on Union and Briargate pkwy.
The alexia snacks are at Albertson’s, right above the chex mix.
Re: goat meat. Not something I shop for myself, but my first stop would be Andy’s Meat Market on Platte just east of Circle. If he doesn’t have it, I bet he knows where you can get it. My second place to try would be an Hispanic market, like Rancho Liborio, who also might be able to tell you who has it if they don’t.
Hope you’ll tell us how it is, if you find some!

I have purchased Alexia chips at the Walmart on Woodmen near Powers
I was at Albertson’s a few months ago and they were giving out samples and coupons for the Alexia snacks, so they probably carry them.
On the water bottles, Costco has a 12-pack of the Rubbermaid water bottles for around $10-13, I can’t remember.. I didn’t buy them since I didn’t need so many bottles, but they looked nice!
Alexia crunchy snacks I know can be found at the Whole Foods off Powers and South Carefree. The hot and spicy crispy waffle fries are excellent, though not the cheapest things!
Salt Lick, I’m not sure.. My sister who lives in Austin just brought me some of their sauce and rub over the summer that she picked up at the restaurant there. I agree, its wonderful stuff! I’ve never seen it locally, but it can be found online at http://www.saltlickbbq.com.
Alexia snacks are at the Walmart on Woodmen and the King Soopers on Hartsel for sure. Walmart does not carry the onion snacks, which are my favorite, but Kings does.
RE: Goat meat…one final thought. It is a main staple in India and there is an Indian grocer near Austin Bluffs & Academy…I think the name is India Bazaar or something close to it. I have eaten my fair share of goat meat after travelling to India twice on mission trips. If the people there hadn’t told me it was goat meat, I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Of course, they’re experts at preparing it! :) It was quite tasty!!
Re: goat meat, I would maybe try Ranch Foods Direct on Fillmore/El Paso. And you may be able to find one of the farms out east (Peyton, Falcon, etc.) that have goats in addition to beef, lamb, etc.
Cari, I haven’t been able to find hot Gates BBQ sauce here. I usually buy it online at the Gates site. I also stock up on every trip to KC! In KC, we find the cheapest place in HyVee rather than the Gates restaurant. And in HyVee, the employees don’t yell at you when you enter! Man, you made me so hungry for some burnt ends and fried pickles.
I saw the Alexia snacks on the endcap of Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage on North Academy (it’s across from the Whole Foods). My opinion is that anything that you can find at Natural Grocers is cheaper than the same item at Whole Foods or Sunflower Market, unless the other stores are having good sales.
For goat meat, I would contact the Got Goats Club in the area. There are many goat farms in the Black Forest and out east that I am sure could get you clean goat meat at a good price. Seach under goats milk at the Raw Milk association of Colorado (RMAC)website. Hope this helps.
You can also get goat meat delivered to Colorado Springs from grantfarms.com at 7.50lb. I don’t know if it’s a good price or not. I would be interested in feedback on cheaper prices.
You can get a sports bottle with straw at Kohl’s…not sure if in stores but definately online… http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/kitchendining/summerliving/sportsbottles/PRD~441221/EZFreeze+Flip+n+Flow+Sports+Bottle.jsp
And if you have Kohl’s charge…30% off code “SAVE30″….free shipping code starting tomorrow 9/17 “MVC9862″
Here is a place that sells the Goat cheese, milk etc. Give them a call they will know where to get the meat if they don’t sell it themselves.
High Plains Dairy is located 30 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Their herd of registered Alpine, Saanen, & Nubian goats enjoy 40 acres of organic pasture grasses, tested well water, and 100% certified organic hay. Contact Jim or Angela Smith (719) 478-2581 or (719) 499-7273; highplainsangela@aol.com .
I just saw the Alexia snacks at Target (off Briargate & Powers). Don’t remember the price, but they were on the end shelves by the check-out.
Ooh, MB – I hadn’t thought of Rancho Liborio, but I’ll bet they carry it. They carry whole lamb’s heads, so why not goat meat?! I’ll bet it’s cheaper there than anywhere else, too.
