Save on printer cartridges

Ah, we couponers go through a lot of ink in an effort to save money by printing coupons!  I definitely think the savings far outweigh the cost, but that doesn’t mean there’s no need to try to streeeeetch out the money spent on ink and paper!

Amanda emailed to let me know that Staples offers a $3 store credit for each cartidge you bring in for recycling – up to ten per month!  She said they send you the store credit at the end of the month and it’s there’s no minimum purchase when redeeming it – just buy whatever you want, like paper to print those coupons on.  Thanks for the tip, Amanda!

I know that the other office supply stores offer similar promotions.  Anyone know the details on the other stores?

RelatedL if you have a Brother printer that auto-senses when the cartidge is “empty”, you need to read this article:  How Your Printer Tricks You Into Buying Ink and Toner When You Don’t Need It.  Basically, you can put black electrical tape over the sensor that senses when your cartridge is “empty” – with a Brother printer, this is often waaaaaay before the toner is gone.

In fact, I did this trick on the laser printer at my father-in-law’s office maybe six months ago and it is still working just fine!  Wonder how much toner we’ve thrown away before now…

After looking at the Office Max deals on your website, I looked up their ink recycle program. You also get $3, but you can turn in 10/week instead of 10/month.

I use Cartridge World. They do refills cheap and after 10, you get one free. I've yet to find a place that's comparable to them and the refills don't cause any issues for me to reuse cartridges. I bought an extra pack, so that if one runs out, I always have the other and then take it in when I can.

We have been using Cartridge World for about 2 months. There is one on Powers/Constitution next to the Starbucks near Safeway. I got 2 HP black refills for $26, I usually pay $19.99 for 1 black refill at WalMart. They refill them while you wait, about 10 minites. We have had no problems thus far.

this is great, but I think it only works for “toner” cartridges not “inkjet” so you might want to check it out first…

we have been using the Cartridge World on GoG (just past Chestnut in the strip mall) for quite a while and have been very happy with the price and customer service. They took a faulty cartridge back and replaced it “no questions asked” one time for us.
