Yep – I’m giving away $10 in Amazon.com gift cards to one lucky commentor this week.  All you have to do is leave a comment on any post on this blog – a new post, an old post, whatever!  You can ask a question, answer someone else’s question, share an experience, ask for input, give advice – and every single time you do, you’ll get an entry into the contest.  The more you comment, the higher your odds of winning!

On Saturday (December 19th) at midnight, I’ll use  a random number generator to choose one commentor who will win $10 in Amazon.com gift cards.  Any comments placed today (Sunday) will also count, so some of you got a head start!

Of course, there are a few rules.  OK, just three:

  1. Qualifying comments must be more than five words.
  2. Gratuitous comments like “Carrie, that is the best post you’ve ever written!” won’t count. :)  Please try to add value to the discussion.
  3. Splitting what is clearly one comment into multiple comments is not allowed.  If you forget something in your original comment, go ahead and leave another one, but if it’s clear you’re trying to cheat the system, those will be thrown out.

If you play by the above rules, there is no limit to the number of times you can enter! Each comment counts as one entry.

Don’t know how to leave a comment?  Read this.

Ready to get started?  Why not give feedback on a thrift store review or answer a reader request?  Stay tuned, there will be lots of posts this week to give you tons of chance to leave comments and win!

Awesome, you always have such fun contests on here! And apparently I have some luck on this site, haha!

Hey Carrie! A new ‘salvage’ or discount grocery store has opened in Pueblo called Markdown Market. I ran through to take a look at it and it seems pretty nice. Very well organized, non-perishable goods for fairly good prices. 1216 S Prairie Ave, open Tues-Sun 10-6

    • Lisa says:

I’ve driven past this place a couple times, and have thought about checking it out. Do you know if they have name brand stuff or mostly off brands? It could be worth adding them to the round up since it’s withing the same 2 block as the other 3 major grocery stores.

      • Robert says:

I just ran through the other day and I saw a great many brand names. Rosarita refried beans for 49 cents a can, Luna and Cliff bars for 50 cents each and so on. Hamburger Helper for 89 cents a box. I didn’t have a great amount of time to spend that day, but I saw enough good deals on canned goods to make it part of my run through that side of town. If it is anything like the salvage stores I am used to from Mississippi and Alabama, they will change out their inventory on a weekly basis, just depends on what turns up.

Alright, let’s get the comments rolling. I actually have a question for anyone out there…has anyone discovered if any Albertson’s in town is better than others at stocking sale items? Or, what day/time are you going and having success at finding sale item in stock? I have wasted WAY TOO MUCH time going to Albertson’s at GOG/Centennial for the main purpose purchasing sale items that aren’t stocked. I continually get the answer, “the warehouse shorted us” as they give me my raincheck. Does the warehouse short them on purpose so that they can draw people in for that sale, but not actually have to sell it at that price?

    • Carrie says:

Ugh, Albertsons is bad about this everywhere in the Springs – though it seems like a lot of people say the GoG store is better than most?! I’m not sure why they can’t/won’t/don’t keep items in stock – I don’t know *for sure*, but my guess is that this is an Albertsons thing because manufacturers have to pay fines to the store if the manufacturer’s warehouse doesn’t deliver.

It is very annoying and has totally kept me from going to Albies several times. I waited *three weeks* to redeem a raincheck (checking at last three times in there) because they didn’t restock the product until almost a month after the sale was over!

    • Amy says:

I’ve had the same problem with the Albie’s at Union and Research… always out of stock and takes forever to restock. When they finally restocked my raincheck was past the expiration date… Luckily the checker gave it to me anyway… frustration!!!

      • Rhianna says:

I go to the Albertsons off 115 and its the same thing, I can rarely ever count on them to have the sale items. I’ve quit shopping Albie’s as much as I used to, just too much hassle coming out with only one or two of the items I wanted, and then having to keep checking back for the rainchecks.

      • Angie says:

Safeway at Powers/Constitution isn’t any better. I finally gave up using their coupons completely (I don’t even look at them anymore) because I’ve been frustrated countless times and left without buying anything due to the $20 minumum, yet they were out of multiple coupon items.

  4. Hannah says:

I love your post & have saved so much money reading here everyday!

  5. Karen says:

Love your website and use it every day! I love the Recent Comments section since it gives me a quick way to scan new comments. Is there a way for me to quickly/easily see more than the last five comments (maybe a way to scan back through all the comments in one place)? Sometimes you get so many I’m not able to catch them all! I love reading the comments for all the useful information.

    • Carrie says:

Ooh, great idea, Karen! It will take a bit of work, but I’ll figure out a way to do that. Thanks for the feedback – it’s good to hear that someone’s using that feature!

      • Heather M. says:

Just fyi that is one of my favorite features. It is really helpful to be able to look over there instead of having to go into every post I might be interested in to see if there are new comments.

        • Lynne says:

I agree – I look at the recent comments first thing to see what people are talking about. I too would love to be able to see more then just the last 5.

      • Sarah H says:

Is there a way to watch the comments on a post without making a comment myself? Sometimes on the grocery sales, I want to see what people have to say, but I don’t really have anything to say myself. So I end up just posting something or other, so I can get notified when there are new comments.

  6. Kathy says:

I agree with those comments! I really use that feature!

  7. Christina says:

This is awsome! I would love to spend more on Amazon twist my arm.

  8. Tresa F says:

Since using your site, I have saved our family an incredible amount of money. Also the food pantry at our church has benefitted substantially. The poor and needy are directly benefitting from your advise and leads and you may be surprised how many on the ‘other side’ of heaven, are going to come up to you and thank you for your humaritarian efforts.

May God continue to bless you and all your endeavors. Have a MERRY Christmas with your family and thanks for all you do!!

  9. This is a fun giveaway. thanks!

  10. Krista says:

Thank you, thank you! You have been a active little bee this Christmas season helping us all stretch our $$$!!! Thank you for all the great insight, what a blessing to my already tight budget! The diaper deals are always helpful to me! The restaurant specials are helpful too, sometimes we all need a break to be served with no clean-up! You deserve a break today! Thank you & enjoy this beautiful season!

  11. Laura says:

I give to the Goodwill on S. Circle throughout the year. They make it so easy to donate with their drive-through and they even offer you a soda or water for free! All I have to do is pop my trunk and their helpful staffers take it out of the trunk for me and write me a receipt! It’s wonderful!

  12. Amy says:

Does anyone know if there any good thrift stores near the very north side of town (Gleneagle)? I usually go to the Goodwill on Academy and Kelly Johnson.

    • KristaK says:

That is the BEST thrift store on the North side of town besides ARC at Academy & Austin Bluffs. ALTHOUGH, the ARC is high priced and I would suggest to ONLY shop there on their 50% off days. Otherwise, it’s too pricy for USED stuff.

  13. Christina says:

I usually try to donate items all through the year as I come across them. That way, my house stays clean and someone gets to use that item all the sooner.

  14. Christina says:

Oh, except for the Wishing tree and Toys for tots. Those two I donate to at the end of the year in December. And Operation Christmas Child also, otherwise like I mentioned before, I usually donate all through the year.

  15. Brenda says:

I have really learned a lot about shopping with coupons from your site! I check it before I go grocery shopping to make sure I am not missing out on a great deal!!! Thanks for all your hard work, Carrie!

  16. KristaK says:

FYI-the kids and I went to Chammps (Shops at Briargate) on Tuesday evening for the Kids Eat Free promotion and found out that the promotion is ONLY from 4-7p. Do Not Be LATE and make sure your FOOD order is in BEFORE 7p, as they go by the TIME STAMP on the food order for the discount. I was absolutely disappointed, as we waited for about 10-minutes to get seated and therefore we did not get our food order in prior to 7p. BTW-the place was empty and there was no need for us to wait the 10-minutes to be seated.

  17. Amy says:

Just wanted to thank you for the heads up about those free disposable cameras and batteries at Target this week… they’ll be great stocking stuffers for my kids and who doesn’t need a million AA batteries!? ;)

  18. Kinisha says:

Just wanted to say regarding the Pampers point program: I have gotten a few things and have been pleased. Didn’t think I paid much for shipping. The only disappointing thing is I would have liked a couple of the giftcards, but they were always out of stock.

  19. Rebekka says:

Ok so I have been clipping coupons like crazy, tracking sales adds, going to 3 different stores for groceries, and I don’t feel like I am saving very much money! I need help :( I hear stories about people getting diapers etc dirt cheap and I don’t understand what I am not doing!

  20. Victory says:

I just printed some Target coupons. Can I use them anywhere else besides Target? Will Walmart take them? How about anyone else?

  21. Amy says:

Rebekka… have you been to one of Carrie’s workshops? If not, I would really recommend that you go… it helps you put deals into perspective and really helped me along in this couponing venture. =0)

  22. Amy says:

Regarding P&G ecoupons… I noticed that the King Soopers website now has digital coupons you can load onto your card. Interestingly enough… all the coupons that I had already loaded onto my card from the P&G website showed up on this site as well. Maybe we will still be able to load the same coupons, but just only through the KS website. Anybody else notice this?

  23. Amy says:

Victory… I’ve been able to use Target coupons at King Soopers as long as they say they are “manufacturer coupons”. Walmart takes coupons, but I haven’t tried to use the ones printed form Target… I imagine they would if it says “manufacturer coupon”, though.

  24. Shirley Pappas says:

I love knowing I can get any book I need on Amazon! I have also sent them to friends and family and what an easy way to send gifts for holidays etc. and it is easy for me ,at 80 years old not all web sites are easy to order on. I love Amazon.
