Safeway deals this week – great prices on roast, plus a weekend sale!

Safeway deals this week weekend saleMan, some great prices at Safeway this week! I’m sure you’ve heard that they’re “slashing every day prices throughout the store”, but to be honest, I’m not sure that’s going to affect us bargain shoppers that much. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great, and it may make me less hesitant to pick up one or two extra full price, “have to have it this week” items at Safeway, but I can’t remember the last time I bought something that wasn’t on sale at Safeway.

I nearly always save over 50% at Safeway because I only buy what’s on sale, so every day price drops probably won’t affect me. Who knows, though, I’ll definitely be checking out the price changes in the store!

  1. One of the news sites had an article about how much they saved and compared something like a 12pk of pop, gallon of milk and a couple other small things. Though KS beat the mark cause of the pop, without the sale – it still came out cheaper than Safeway. Wal-Mart won without sales. Something interesting to be sure. I think it was KKTV, but not sure, can’t find it now.

  2. When I was in Safeway today I was mostly stocking up on the cheese sale items. It said something in the ad about it not including 6 oz. breakstone sour cream (something like that), but I didn’t see a bigger size that was included, so it looks like it’s pretty much the velveeta, the philly cream cheeses, the shreds and blocks of cheese and the slices. ‘My’ store (Falcon) has a very small selection of the block cheeses, but a lot of varieites of the shreds. I was mostly buying for the freezer, so I wanted shredded anyway.

Oh, and I bought one tub of the 8oz flavored cream cheese to see if it would count, and it did! Unfortunately, ‘my’ store doesn’t carry our two favorite flavors – garden veggie and onion chive. (I got the spinach artichoke, tried it tonight – meh.) They do have several of the fruit flavored ones as well. Hope this helps someone!

The oranges looked lovely – I got some, and if they are good, I’ll get more when I’m in there for the Saturday sale items. :)

  3. When I got to the checkout today, I asked the young Safeway cashier if he knew if you could do the cheese deal more than once and he had no clue what I was talking about. I teased him about not studying his ad last night and he said he was doing homework instead. I bought 10 cheese items and it did work. After coupons, when he saw my savings, he was visibly impressed. I told him, “As you can see, I DID study my ad last night!” Lol!

  4. I was wondering if Walmart will price match the Saturday and Sunday deals, which say “Club Price” next to the price. I have price matched KS and Safeway ads before with no problem, even though practically all the sale prices require a club card. Never tried it on these weekend specials–anyone have experience or suggestions?

    • Betsy, I don’t do it often, but my guess is you should be fine. Target is more picky and says they won’t honor “club card” deals.

  5. I haven’t been to walmary in awhile thanks to you, Carrie, but I do recall asking about price matching club card weekend sales and even the in store safeway coupon and they did both for me.

  6. I was in my Safeway in Fountain yesterday and they have the 10 lb bags of potatoes on sale for $0.50! Thanksgiving overstock? Check your produce section for that!

  7. I just got home from the Safeway on Circle and Airport and the Large navel oranges were 3Lbs for .99$ also. They were very nice looking today.

  8. If you’re not already signed up for bettycrocker.com I would highly recommend it. I got an e-mail from them yesterday with many cookie recipes using their cookie pouches – on sale at Safeway. So many of them look good and I will definitely be trying them. There were also recipes to use with BC frosting also, which are $0 at Albies this week! It’s a BC coupons so of course they use their items but they’re on sale so… Also coupons available to print there too.

  9. I am looking forward to getting some cheese. I always get my mild cheddar cheese at Sam’s, but I think it’s time to stock up on some pepper jack, yum.

  10. GM cereals are also on sale Buy 4 get $4 making them $1.50 each. The checker said there should be no problem with doing more than 4 in one transaction. Included were Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cherios (plain, fruity, and multi-grain), ther are probably others but I can’t remember them all.

  11. Anyone ever tried freezing Velveeta? Sounds questionable to me, but I thought I would check into it at that price :)

    • I’ve never frozen it, but check the dates on the box – I’ll bet there’s no need to. You can store it at room temp unopened, and I’m guessing it’s got a pretty long shelf life.

  12. I bought 3 boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats for 99 cents each and ended up getting a catalina for $1 off my next shopping order from Post Cereals!
