The Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District are holding their next book sale January 29-31st! Here’s the schedule:
- Friday, January 29, 4 to 7 PM: Friends members and educators only
- Saturday, January 30, 9 AM to 5 PM: General public sale
- Sunday, January 31, 11 AM to 3 PM: $5 bag sale (bags supplied)
It’s at the East Library branch (5550 North Union). Have you snagged any awesome deals at a library book sale? What type of ID do you have to show to qualify as an educator – do homeschooling parents count?

Carrie, I would probably call the library to ask about whether or not homeschooling parents count. My guess is they might, but the children might have to be school age for that – just not sure. Keep in mind, friends members also get a discount.
PPLD is re-vamping the collection. I sub for the library, so I don’t know how much of the info is public, but I am guessing the sale will have a LOT of books. A lot. Many. Plenty.
I should probably *not* go, because I love books a little too much! ;)

I LOVE this sale. I am a teacher and I just bring my school ID card. It’s not just old library books for sale. There are books that people have donated that the library just can’t use. I’ve gotten brand new books for cheap. I think children’s books run 10-25 cents each.
I’ve picked up a lot of books on just about every topic, for great prices. It’s a great place to snag books for traveling, so I won’t worry about losing one of my books – or one belonging to the library! Better yet, the money goes to a great cause. Can someone really have too many books?
I e-mailed them last time they had this sale and they did say that homeschoolers count as educators but they weren’t sure what we could use as an ID. I’d love to know the answer to that one! I use my High Country ID for the Borders education sales, wonder if that would work here?
I am SUPER STOKED! I’ve never been to one before, but it’s on my calendar!
I haven’t gone to a book sale at this library, but I know at other libraries if you are buying a huge pile of books you can often offer them a price. They are usually happy to get rid of as many books as possible.
The library accepts copies of letters of intent to homeschool or Borders and Barnes and Noble educator cards as proof of educator status. You might have to explain this to the nice people who let you into the sale–lots of times they don’t even know this. The first time homeschoolers were allowed into the Friends/Friday sale, the staff decided they would take a homeschooler’s word for her status. No mas. Also, at the last Friday sale, only children who had Friend status were allowed in (Saturdays and Sundays were OK). So unless you don’t mind your children waiting in the hallway, leave them at home if you go on Friday.
Great info – thanks, Penny!
