It’s hard to find something really affordable, but for dependable we use PetSmart Hotel. They’re the only place in town that we could find that didn’t shut the lights out and leave at 7pm. There is someone there all night long, as well as a vet on call. They have multiple options on cost–from just boarding (food is included in the price) to add-ons for extra excercise time. My advice is to be bold and ask what kind of discount they would give you if you paid in full in advance??? It has worked for us at other places, like the orthodontist and music lessons. Why not give it a try?
Most La Quinta locations allow dogs and do not charge an additional pet fee. One of my favorite websites for searching for dog friendly hotels is http://www.bringfido.com. You can search by city and it gives you the room rate and whether there is a pet fee. For information specific to Colorado, the Colorado directory website is helpful. You go to the “Dogs Ok” section and it lists hotel, cabin, and B&B locations that allow dogs. You will still want to call before you make a reservation because sometimes the information online is inaccurate. We had a bad experience in which we had to stay in a smoking room because dogs were only allowed in smoking rooms. I had reserved a nonsmoking room online.
We really like Camp Bow Wow, though I don’t know what your definition of afforable is. I *think* it was about $20 a night when we last used them a year ago. I love that they actually get them out of their cages for multiple hours every day and let them socialize. Some one watches the dogs at all times and they group them by size (so no gigantic dogs with the small dogs).
We used Pueblo West Boarding Kennel…it was a drive from Springs but its at their home so they are always there and he has been around for forever. It was also cheap, we paid 7 per dog per night! Food is included also. I think its worth the drive because everywhere in the Springs is a lot more expensive!!

I *strongly* recommend Preppy Pet Suites. It’s kind of out of the way (for me at least) near Galley and Academy, but in my opinion, it’s the best in town. It’s also one of the cheapest for small dogs, since their nightly boarding rates are dependent upon kennel size. I have a 13 pound Boston and she gets the smallest crate. During the day you can have them in “doggie daycare” so they’re having fun and not stuck in a cage all day. I’ve taken my dog pretty much everywhere in town (Camp Bow Wow, Lucky Dog, etc) and I love these guys. They really care about my dog (the owners, Tom and Ella). Sorry this sounds like an ad, but I am just so gung-ho about this place. Even if it takes 30 min. to get there from my house in Briargate.
OK, sorry for the novel here :)
Correction to what I said above: it is $20 for just daycare. Overnight is $32. I went to their website to look it up since it has been a while. Sorry.
We love PetsHotel, too. Our dog has been in there for weeks at a time and he has always gotten great care! He’s pooped when he gets home! They play with him and know him by name when we make our reservations. They’ve also put him in extra play sessions because he plays well with others and they like to add him in for the other dogs since he’s in between playgroup sizes.
You can use a pet sitting service such as Fetch. They will have a sitter meet with you first. The sitter will then plan to let your dogs out or even stay overnight in your home.
When we moved to the Springs a couple years ago, we wanted to find a place to board our dogs that we were comfortable with. We have 2 dogs a mini dachshund and a Weimaraner. Upon a recommendation from a colleague, we’ve been daycare/boarding our dogs at Be a Lucky Dog boarding and they’re fantastic. Their philosophy on play time for dogs if you choose to do daycare with your boarding is great. Our dogs always have a great time and we know that they’re well looked after and cared about. The staff at Lucky Dog is fantastic and our dogs are so excited to get to see their friends they’re racing for the door when we get there. They also have webcams, so you can check in on your dog while you’re away. I highly recommend this place. The website it http://www.bealuckydog.com and they have 2 locations. We board ours at the one off of Garden of the Gods and Mark Dabling and have been very pleased.
Lucky Dog Central is the only place in town I’ll trust with my dogs. They get to play all day and have webcams so you can see that your dog is playing (and not cooped up all day).
I don’t mind paying extra for the daycare. Leaving a dog in a cage all day is just cruel.
I agree with Kathy and Jenny. I board at Luck Dog and really enjoy using the web cams to make sure my fur children are doing well. They also have an outside area (central location) and small dog play time. I have two small dogs (mini doxi & a jack/doxi). I have borded at both locations and prefer the central location.
Also, if memory serves me right, in the Yellow Book there may be a “free day” of doggie day care. You will need to go through an evaluation first to make sure that the dogs “jell” well together.
I have used an at home sitter, and was not happy with the shape my house was in once I returened and I have also used PetSmart, which is okay, but I really like that my dogs can spend time out side playing/sunbathing when ever they choose.
Good Luck!
I’m open to watching small dogs in my home. Fenced back yard, doggie door, and I have two small furry friends to keep them company. We walk daily, and sleeping on the furniture is okay too :). Rates negotiable. Dublin/Austin Bluffs
We just used Sunrise Kennels for 2 weeks. http://www.sunrise-woodmenpetcare.net/
It was $35 for both dogs per night and they got a free bath before we picked them up. They went of a few walks for a little extra but they are both older so they don’t run all day. Overall I was very happy with them.
I have a Pet Sitting business in my home since 2005. Its called Patty Paws.
I have great references and the lowest price in town. I also will come to your home for bigger dogs as well. email if you have questions.
