Update: go here to submit your savings!
After writing up Safeway’s inordinately long number of deals this week, I had an idea… How about a contest to see who can save the most at Safeway this week? There are a ton of great deals, and if you think you have the super-shopper skills to save more than anyone else, listen up:
Shop at Safeway this week and save your receipts. Take a picture of your purchases. Send me the pictures, your total spent, and your total savings to me by next Wednesday, March 17th. I’ll look at all the entries and judge who got the best overall savings.
The winner gets a $25 Amazon.com gift code and a $25 Diapers.com gift code! Who knows – there may even be some runner-up prizes.
Since this is a contest, not a giveaway, it’s based on skill, not luck. I’ll be judging who got the best overall deals. Hint: I’m partial to shoppers who can get great savings on a well-rounded cartful of deals, not just one item like 100 boxes of Fruit Snacks. ;)
Put your super-shopper skills to work and you may win more than you even spend! There’s no need to blow your grocery budget to win, either. I’m looking at the most impressive savings, not who got the most food.
Who can win? Anyone! Springs Bargains is here to serve Colorado Springs, but since there are Safeways all over the country and the grand prize is something that can be used anywhere, this contest is open to anyone, anywhere!
What are the rules? Be honest. Email me pictures and data from your Safeway shopping trips from March 10-16, 2010.
Is there a minimum or maximum purchase amount? Nope – spend as little or as much as you want. You can make one trip to the store or twenty. You can spend $20 or $2000. Winners will be judged on savings totals and the best overall deals.
When do I need to have my stuff to you by? No later than midnight next Wednesday, March 17th.
How do I get my pictures and stuff to you? Please use this form. Only one submission will be accepted per household, so save your pictures and numbers to upload all at once.
Got more questions? Leave a comment and I’ll answer it there. Start making your shopping lists!
Note: Safeway is not in any way a sponsor of this contest – but if they’d like to kick in a gift card or two, they can feel free to contact me! :)

Carrie! I went yesterday but have already used some of the items (especially the oranges at 50¢ a pound… feeding 28 swim team boys at a pasta supper!), and I unboxed all the fruit rollups for the kids snack box. So a picture might be really hard. How about a picture of the receipt! I have a great number to post!
That works, too – just list out the items you bought, if you can! I’ll try to get an upload form up soon.
This sounds like fun. Now if I can just get the picture downloaded from my camera in time. (It usually takes me months!)
cannot wait to see how well everyone does. Thanks for the great challenge.
When I went last night my receipt showed 95% savings. (My best yet!) Even my teenager was impressed, lol.
This sounds fun! Too bad it wasn’t last week. lol. I got 4 boxes of cereal and 2 gallons of milk at KS and paid a total of .10 out of pocket! That was a 99% savings. The cashier was totally flabbergasted. :) That receipt is posted on the frig as motivation! :) Good Luck all!! :D
I also went yesterday and I just got my pics taken! Can’t wait for you to upload the form! I think it was my best trip yet with sales + coupons! ( I did eat a salad mix already so I used the empty bag in my photo towards the back) Hahah!
This sounds like fun! I went last night and had 3 out of 4 transactions with nada out of pocket. Loving me some Safeway this week!!!
Hey, if I’m going to blog about my Safeway purchase, with photos, including one of the receipt, can I just send you the link, or do you want me to send you the whole deal in an email w/attached photos?
Thanks!

A link to your blog is fine as long as it includes the requested data!
Jess@This Frugal Life could you please elaborate on what coupons you used and what deals to help those of us who are just getting the hang of this out.
Thanks,
Christina

Here is a link to the breakdown: http://www.thisfrugallife.com/2010/03/my-vons-trip-7-spent-for-over-87-worth.html
There was a catalina promotion on Kellogg’s cereal that ended on Wednesday, so my shopping scenario is already dead, but you can still get the cereal for 80 cents through Tuesday :)
Alright, folks – you can start submitting your entries here! http://springsbargains.com/safeway-contest-2010/
Remember, it’s just one submission per household and you have until next Wednesday to enter, so there’s no rush if you’re planning on making more shopping trips.
It’s too bad that the contest runs from the 11-16. I have to tell you about the amazing deals I got at Safeway on March 8! I bought 4 Safeway apple juices for $0.99/each and 2 loaves of Safeway bread @ $0.99/each. I bought 2 Freschetta pizzas (I had 2 coupons for a free pizza because I contacted customer service about a problem I had with one of their products), 3 bags of Safeway frozen potatoes, El Monterey Taquitos ($1 off coupon), and 2 cans of Old Orchard juice that totaled $26.05 (enough to get the $10 Catalina). I bought 2 Precious string cheeses for $1.99 each and had 1 $1.00 coupon. The only thing I bought that wasn’t on sale was a bunch of cilantro (had to have it for guacamole). With all of my coupons, the $10 catalina from the P&G toilet paper/paper towel deal last week, my total came to $13.83 (a savings of 73%) and I got a $10 catalina from the frozen food!!! Basically I paid $3.83 for all of that!!!!!!
There’s not enough room on the submission form to upload two more pictures I have. Can I email them to you?
That’s fine.
