What’s free at Safeway? Quaker cereal, Marie’s dressings, and more!

If you can go to Safeway this week and keep all their promos straight, I’ll award you a gold star!  There are two different Buy 5 Save $5 promotions, a weekend sale, a few awesome regular deals, and the frozen food promotion continues this week!

I’m going to direct you back to last week’s post for the frozen food promotion – there’s not much new in the ad, so I’ll assume most of the prices stayed the same through this week.  (I’ve updated the ones that did have changes in the ad).  Remember, you’ll earn $10 on your next order for every $25 you spend in participating frozen food products – which is basically a 40% savings even before coupons!  Go here for the list.

Note: a lot of you have contacted me about the Safeway at Constitution and Powers – they are only accepting one printable coupon of any kind per transaction, so please know this and keep it in mind.  As far as I know, this is a single-store policy and hasn’t been reported anywhere else in Colorado Springs.

  1. Raeme says:

Where is the Quaker squares coupon?

  2. Vicky Rasmussen says:

Anyone know if you can roll the $10 frozen catalina towards more frozen items?

    • Janet says:

Yes, you can roll the frozen food coupon towards another $25 frozen food purchase.

    • Corina says:

Although the Catalina states that it is only towards a frozen foods purchase, the Safeway in Pueblo let me use it towards my cereal and fruit snacks purchase last night. She said if it scans, she’ll take it….and it did!

  3. Kim says:

I was at Safeway yesterday and there were a few other cereals included in the buy 5 save $5 deal. Reese’s Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch (and I think Apple Jacks were included too) were $1.50 if you buy 5. There are printables out there for the Reese’s Puffs, making them only .50. The Kellogg’s fruit snacks are also included for 1.00 if you buy 5 or more, so they are free after the $1.00 printable coupons from snackpicks and vocalpoint. I also noticed that the Mentos gum is on sale for .99. So after the .55/1 insert coupon, it’s also free.

  4. Gwen says:

The 2/28 SS has two coupons for $1.00 off 2 Post cereals. This includes Fruity Pebbles and Honey Bunches of Oats and many other flavors. (These were in the Denver Post).

  5. Joanne says:

    RE: Post Fruity Pebbles $1.50
    Coupons?
Rating: ? – do you Colorado readers have insert coupons for Post cereal? The coupon databases said there were some out, but I can’t find them… We usually get them in the Post, though!
I have several of the Post Cereal insert coupons. I get the Denver Post, too and I have 2 different ones that say $1/2 (one just shows fewer varieties than the other). They both exp 4/11…looks like they came in the 2/28 SmartSource.

  6. Joanne says:

@Gwen: You’re just too fast!! :o) Great minds think alike!

@ Everyone: There is also a $1/1 printable coupon for the Marie’s Dressings on smartsource.com or if you go to http://www.maries.com and sign up for their newsletter you can get one emailed to you as well.

  7. Sarah H says:

Wow, I’m tired just thinking about going to Safeway this week. I missed out last week, though, so I need to make it there this week.

  8. Joann says:

I found a $1/3 on any flavor Kelloggs coupon that expires March 21. That should be good toward Corn Flakes I’d assume…

  9. Tresa F says:

I can confirm the catalina at the Safeway at Academy/Union! I got one for $3.50 yesterday!

  10. Kathy says:

Was just at Safeway… Honeycombs cereal is also included in the “5″ sale… forgot to look which price category it fell into… coupons include the Honeycombs.

  11. Raeme says:

I can not seem to get to the coupon section on smartpicks, any ideas?

  12. Sunny says:

I went last night and was able to score free salad dressings, I had inserts and two printables. Picked up two mushrooms to round out at 10 since I didn’t want to take chances of that buy 5, save $5 not being the same buy 5, save $5 for the cereal/granola. I was able to snag some free Quaker cereal & Kelloggs fruit snacks. Then some cheap chex mix bars. I will be going back for the Natural Valley bars & nuts clusters. I left the store with 20 items for $3.60 I believe.

I confirmed these additional items last night: (Prices after $5 discount) $.50 each after coupons!
Nature Valley Granola Nut Clusters $1.50 – $1/1 printables on coupons.com, smartsource, bettycrocker, boxtops4education, pillsbury & cellfire – sheesh!
    Chex Mix Bars $1.50
    $.60 printables on bettycrocker, boxtops4education & pillsbury.

Side note, there is a 20 item limit. Last time they did one of these promotions I learned the hard way that it’s 20 items per card. Not day, not transaction, per card. I am confused this time as to if the produce $5 deal is a different deal than the cereal $5 deal so I’m not taking any chances and will be using another number for my next 20 items.

  13. CharLynn says:

There is a catalina deal on Post cereal. Here are the details:
“Buy Post Cereal (10 oz or larger) between 2/26 and 3/21. Buy 4 and get $3.00, buy 5 or more and get $4.00 coupon on your next order.”
There isn’t a list of the cereals but there is a picture of them and those are:Great grains, Honey Bunches of Oats, Shredded Wheat (original), Honey Comb, Raisin Bran, Trail Mix Crunch, Grapenuts, and Fruity Pebbels.”

I took advantage of it last night at the Safeway at Powers and Constitution and I bought 3 boxes of Honey bunches of Oats with peaches 1 box of Honey bunches of Oats with cinnamon and I got the $3.00 cat. Thought you might like to know.

  14. Karla says:

The produce deal is a SEPARATE deal from the fruit snacks/cereal….so don’t mix and match to make up your totals. Also, there is a coupon for the Fresh Express Artisean salads for $1.50 off one. It’s on their website and the coupon is a PDF so no print limit….it expires in December. The salads on sale are Fresh Express salads (various varieties). Went to the Safeway on Powers/Constitution and the catalina for the BC fruit snacks/rollups/etc is printing as well as for Post Cereals (Honey Bunches) save $3.00 when you buy 4. I was able to do multiple transactions and exceeded the “20 limit per card” so I think the limit only applies to each TRANSACTION and not card.

  15. Brooke says:

On the back of the ad, at the very bottom (in tiny little letters) it says “all limits are per household, per day.” So–that’s what I’ve been going with. I figure you can always point out their policy to them if anyone gives you a hard time. :)

  16. Roxanne says:

lots of different cereals included! (even found a blinkie there for Kelloggs cereal that was on sale–that never happens!)

the Red Baron singles are no longer included in the promo. neither are the Digornios, or Dreyers Ice Cream…bummer-that’s what I had coupons for

the El Monterey only includes the burritos multi packs.

    • Carrie Isaac says:

No way! They actually removed the tags? Can’t say I’ve ever seen them do that before… sometimes they adjust the price, but usually the products are the same throughout the promo.

      • Roxanne says:

tags removed–you can see where they ripped them off…on the Red Baron. The Digornio still has the promo tag but the sale price is back up to regular price

  17. Gwen says:

Safeway has a ‘your heart’ coupon booklet available in the store. This booklet has a store coupon for $1.00 off Colgate Total toothpaste. The shelf tag by the Colgate says ‘$1 each wyb 3′. You should be able to combine this with some Colgate insert coupons (2/21 SS) to get free toothpaste.

The coupon also specifies a minimum purchase of $20 (but that should be easy to accomplish this week).

  18. melissa says:

Honeycomb was $1.50 and included in the $5 deal. I only get the CS Gazette and had the $1/2 coupons.

I also wanted to confirm catalinas at Academy and 115 store. I got BC Fruit snacks and Post cereal and got $3 and $3.50 catalinas.

  19. Nicole says:

I saw $1 Kellogg’s peelies at Target and snagged a few. Not sure if that’s ethical, but I did it anyway!

  20. Carrie Isaac says:

Just wanted to update to let you know that you can start submitting your entries to the Safeway savings contest here: http://springsbargains.com/safeway-contest-2010/

If you missed the post about the savings contest this week, read here: http://springsbargains.com/contest-how-much-can-you-save-at-safeway-this-week/

  21. Jennifer P says:

Dryers is still included, I just checked at Powers & Constitution.

  22. Lori says:

Just went this AM. The TGIF meal kits are included in the deal for $6.99 and we have $2/1 insert coupons. The bag feels really full, I hope they taste good too.
Jimmy Dean Delights are now up to 6.99 a box.
I bought some meat markdowns for Oscar myer cold cuts, and thought I was getting a great deal with my coupons and the register beeped, she said it was b/c you can’t use coupons on meat mark downs. Do you think this is true or was she just giving me an excuse?

    • Sunny says:

I’m pretty sure I’ve used coupons at Safeway before on markdowns. They just have to enter it themselves since the markdown bar code doesn’t match the product when they scan the coupon. That’s my theory at least. ;)

      • Carrie Isaac says:

Can’t say that I’ve ever used coupons on markdowns at Safeway, but I know that King Soopers is often the way Sunny indicated above… Sometimes the markdown barcode doesn’t match the coupon – OR, if the cashier enters the product manually (say it’s got a $2 sticker on it and they have to key in the product rather than scan it), the coupon will beep.

        • Carolyn says:

King Soopers lets me use Q’s on markdown items, but I did run into the same problem as Lori (at the Safeway on Academy/Union).

    • Sarah H says:

I have used coupons on dairy markdowns before, but not meat.

      • Julie says:

I’ve used them on meats before with no problem. I can’t remember if they had to manually enter or not, but I know I’ve had some good buys matching up the coupons and markdowns.

    • NATALIE says:

I used coupons on the mark down oscar meyer cold cuts at the Falcon store and they took my coupons. I can’t remember if they beeped though, but she still took them off.

  23. Julie says:

THe catalina on the friyut snacks didn’t work for me. Is it still going on?

  24. Kelly says:

I believe it goes on until the 23rd

  25. Sarah H says:

The Denver Post had a Safeway ad today with 10 lb of russett potatos for $0.99 and Classico pasta sauce for $1.79. Do you know if that is going on in the Springs too? And, with the Classico coupon that we got today, does that make the pasta sauce a good deal?

    • Carrie Isaac says:

Not sure, but I’m guessing the potato sale may be going on here. The Classico sauce *might* be a good deal, but it requires a beef purchase, and I don’t recall Safeway having any beef on sale for a great price this week. So, I’d probably wait for a better match up unless you’re buying meat anyway.

The coupon would bring the sauce down to about $1.04 each, plus whatever you pay for the beef. It’s a good price for the pasta sauce, but not sure it’s overall a good deal since you have to buy beef.)

      • Sarah H says:

Thanks! I didn’t notice it required a beef purchase until after I posted. It drives me crazy when they do that!

      • kathyc says:

I used the classico coupon when I bought corned beef this week. Yummy in the crockpot with cabbage.

    • Heather M. says:

Sarah, the Gazette had the same ad so I would assume the Springs stores have the .99 potatoes.

      • Carrie Isaac says:

Well, if the Gazette’s ad wasn’t enough, I can confirm that Springs area stores have 99¢ potatoes through Tuesday!

  26. Rachel says:

The Denver Post has $1/2 Honey Bunches of Oats & $1/2 Post Pebbles Cereals today! :)

  27. Julie says:

The catalinas on the fruit snacks and the Post cereal did not print today. The checkout lady told me they weren’t going anymore, but I called the catalina company, they were so nice and helpful, and they are still going. So I won’t have these to go towards my next purchase, with the contest can I just tell you that I’m getting them? It’ll end up making my overall cheaper. :)
