Two Springs Bargains readers have both requested your help finding an affordable pet groomer! Audrey writes:
We have a 13lb. schnoodle who needs to be shaved really short twice a year. No fancy designer cut needed. We have taken him to Petsmart and it costs $44! Yikes. I guess that includes the bath, nail trim, cleaning his ears. Any suggestions?
Another reader, Crystal, emailed with the same request. Can you help these readers out with your tips on affordable pet grooming in Colorado Springs?

I have an 11lb shiz zhu and shave him twice a year too. We go to Northgate Animal hospital at voyager/middle creek for check ups and grooming. Grooming is $35 for bath, nail trim, cleaning his ears. And they always get him in and are very nice and treat him well.

We have a standard poodle, and we also just want basic grooming, nothing fancy. We bought a good set of dog clippers and we learned to do it ourselves in the garage. Our dog does not mind when it does not come out perfect at first. We have gotten better at it & the clippers pay for themselves rather quickly.Additionally, by grooming him ourselves, we can quickly notice anything weird with his health – plus it is less stressful for our dog!
We have a terrific groomer at Crossroads Grooming. She only charges us 32 dollars for our Yorkie, the full works, bath, hair cut, nails, ears cleaned, etc. Phone no is 590-9221. They are in the basement of Crossroads Vet.
We used to go to another groomer, but they charged us 44 dollars and we were never happy with the haircut. They never seemed to cut it short enough, probably so we would have to come back sooner.
Hi i would check out loonygroom
http://www.coloradospringsgrooming.com
they dont cage their dogs and do one family at a time and the prices are very low with referral discounts
all i know is she beats anybody ive gone to in 3 yrs in colorado springs
Why not do it yourself? That is a sure way to save money. You can pick up a quality trimmer at a beauty supply store. I recommend the “peanut” . It is a small but powerful trimmer. I got mine at Sally Beauty and it has lasted several years now and is going strong. They run around $50.
Ha! You haven’t met my schnoodle! You can’t do anything to this dog. We do manage to bathe him and occasionally we can hold him down to brush him for a few minutes. I bought the Pedi-paws and we can’t get near him with it to even help him get used to it. He is a rescue dog and must have issues. :) At Petsmart the groomers say he bites the clippers, etc. It is worth it to take him to a groomers, I just want the best price I can get.
We always go to the Critter Clips Grooming School at Academy and Vickers.
You cannot beat the prices, care, quality and kindness of Joanne at Ruffcuts, just off of Fillmore on Wood Avenue, behind the 7-11. Phone 217-3388. Around $30 for a large dog. Ringo loves her!
We use Annie’s Pet Salon at Barnes & Oro Blanco. $35 for bath, dry, cut, nails, ears, etc. We’ve been very happy with them and they’ve cut our baby since she was only 12wks old. She’s not scared anymore to go as it’s the same gal every time- it does look a little “run down” when you go, but we’ve honestly only had good experiences!
Eva’s on North Carefree is awesome. I have two small dogs and she does terrific with them.
We go to Annie’s Grooming on Barnes (near where Barnes and Austin Bluffs meet). I think it is about $32 for our bichon/shih tzu mix. They do a good job, and he seems ok with them (he’s pretty shy, so he’s not great with anyone, but he doesnt seem to HATE it).
I really like them, and its the cheapest I’ve found.
WELL I DONT KNOW ABOUT ANY OF THIS BUT I GO TO LOONYGROOM RIGHT OFF N UNION
CHRISSY IS VERY INEXPENSIVE NO CAGING AND FAST SERVICE I THINK ANYONE WOULD LIKE A SMALL SALON LIKE HERS THEY TREAT MY SHIHTZU VERY WELL

Allison – Country K-9′s pet salon. She is up by the Chapel Hills Mall and does a great job!
Does any one have suggestions for cat grooming? I have a long hair that will need some help before summer.
Hi Michelle.
I neglected to mention that Hairy D-tails also does cat bathing and grooming. The shop is close to Powers and Platte. Thank you.
I don’t know her prices but Christina at K-9 Cuts and Care is a good friend of ours. Her # is 494-8494. She is in the south Black Forest area/Falcon area –
She also offers boarding if you are looking for a place to leave your dog during your summer vacation :-)
I have a German Shedder, oh I mean German Shepherd, and I called around a ton for the best price on a de-shedding service and the best price I found was Linda’s Professional Pet Grooming. She was great! I don’t know what she charges for shaving but based on what we paid, I would guess that she is very reasonable. She is in Falcon near the Safeway and Walmart, her number is (719) 661-1809. She also does cats.
OMG! I went to Hairy D-tails to get my shih tzu groomed and they did an AMAZING job! My little girl Lulu was soo happy when she left, she was prancing around like a queen LOL! They charged me so little for so much. Lulu’s groom included everything even her toenails for one reasonable price. I don’t know how much they charge for bigger dogs, but it was $38 for my dog! I highly recommend you get your dog done at Hairy D-tails it was so easy and and cheap and Lulu looked FABULOUS!
Hi-
My wife owns Hairy D-tails Pet Salon in The Springs. I was reading the question and asked her how much the 13lb Schnoodle would cost. All the services listed and a “Furminator” treatment would be $35. I then noticed Bonnie’s comments and thought “How Cool!” Thank you Bonnie! We rely HEAVILLY on referrals, since I didn’t enter our website correctly with the search engines. (OOPS!)
Has anyone, since this post, tried any of these groomers? I am suddenly in need of a new groomer for our Malti-Poo.
I’ve used Loony Groom – she does a great job & I love the fact that our dog is not kenneled & is usually done within 90 minutes! Her prices are by far the lowest in the 6 years we’ve been here (beating Critter Clips by almost $10!). Here is the address & phone number:
