BunnyTrails tweeted me with this tip: the Ace Hardware store at 3640 Austin Bluffs Pkwy has all their seed packets marked to 50¢! She said there were lots available when she was there yesterday.
What’s the best thing to do with seeds this late in the season? Save them for next year, or plant and see what you get?

I personally think you will be too late to grow anything unless you have short season seeds and you are willing to pay for covers when it freezes (earliest is Sept 20th – if we have nice weather the hard freeze comes by October 20th). So, you have *maybe* 60-90 days left.
One of my favorite books “The Vegetable Gardeners Bible” (which you can get from the library… :0)…) tells you how many years each kind of seed lasts. I used to try and use up all my seeds each year until I realized that I could keep them for at least 2 growing seasons. Now, I usually only use the seeds that I really need and keep the rest for the next year. I mean, who really needs 25 zucchini plants each year?!! :0)
What a great sale!… no idea where it is, but I’ll google it and stop in. Thanks!
It’s not too late for spinach and lettuce. I’ve even planted lettuce in late August on purpose. They grow a little and stay that size throughout the winter under the snow and ice. As soon as we get a little warmth in the spring they grow like crazy and we have fresh lettuce earlier than anyone else.
