Above blogs: My Kitchen Cafe, The Pioneer Woman, 5 Dollar Dinners

Sara commented on the Wall this week and said:

I love the My Kitchen Cafe blog. Do you know of any other great recipe blogs?

And, well, as I got to thinking about it… I have quite a few cooking/food blogs that I read, but I’ve never actually made many of their recipes!  I guess I like eye candy more than the actual food?!

Now that Baby’s here and I’m not pregnant and it’s maybe, hopefully starting to get cooler, I’ve been inspired to actually start cooking healthy, well-rounded meals again!  So, I need to start making all the yummy food I’ve been drooling at.

What are your favorite recipe/cooking blogs or websites – and why?

allrecipes.com is my go-to site when I’m looking for a recipe. They have everything, and I love the rating system and that I can store my favorite recipes so they’re easy to find later. I also like Cooks.com, as I’ve had success finding good recipes and tips for substitutions when I’m out of things like allspice, season salt and chili sauce!

I really love to cook from scratch and any ‘home cooking comfort food’. Cooking makes me happy (and other people too)! :)

When I’m searching for something specific, I almost always go to http://www.food.com/ (formerly recipezaar)

Here are a few blogs I frequent regularly..

    http://stolenmomentscooking.com/
    http://www.browneyedbaker.com/
    http://cookingwithkrista.blogspot.com/
    http://noemptychairs.wordpress.com/
    http://amysfinerthings.com/
    http://grocerycartchallenge.blogspot.com/

Liz, I roomed with Kate from Stolen Moments Cooking and Amy from Amy’s Finer Things at a blogging conference earlier this year! :)

Really?? That’s awesome! I just love their blogs! I’m from Nebraska and just love the small town country life. Not sure what I’m doing in the city..lol.. but I love it here too. :)

I have always gone to Recipezaar, but now that it has changed to http://www.food.com I don’t like it as well. Guess I’ll get ideas from here. :)

Just realized I totally forgot to even mention http://CooksIllustrated.com as one of my favs. Though, I don’t really go there for inspiration… mostly just for reliable recipes for the basics. I’ve found their recipes are GREAT, but aren’t particularly inventive.

This morning I printed off Pioneer Woman’s recipe for Chicken Enchiladas! Hoping it’s finally an alternative to enchiladas made with condensed soups (as that’s something I never buy!).

One of my favorite recipe websites is http://www.ourbestbites.com. Simple but good recipes along with great pictures. One of my favorite recipes from this site is the southwest beef wraps. Yummy!!

    Oh I have so many!

    Some of my favorites:

FishMama at http://Lifeasmom.com and her other site: http://goodcheapeats.com/ She has great, easy recipes on both sites that are frugal but fill up hungry tummies.

My other favorite is: http://www.southernplate.com/ Unbelievably fabulous food! She has a simple recipe for cucumber/tomato salad that is so divine.

And I do love allrecipes.com for their reviews.

Oh, you gals have to check out cheekykitchen.com. Brooke is a Springs mom with mouth watering recipes! Plus her bloggings that go along with her recipes are adorable, sweet and SO creative. Seriously though, her recipes are amazing! Homemade strawberry cupcakes with real strawberries in the cupcakes and frosting! A chicken, strawberry salad with cilantro lime dressing! Homemade soft pretzels that will be your kids fav snack. I just can’t say how much I love this recipe blog and I’ve never met her, I’m just a huge fan!

One of my favorites is http://crockpot365.blogspot.com. In ’08 this lady made a resolution to use her crockpot *everyday* and she blogged all about it. She still adds recipes frequently so whenever I feel like using the crockpot I head over to her site! So far my fav is her Lemon Garlic chicken.

I love recipes.com – especially their “ingredients: feature. I list what I have on hand, like ground beef, pasta, and tomato sauce, onions and list what I don’t have (or don’t like) mushrooms, cheese and see how many dishes it comes up with – it’s amazing! And the recipes are rated and people add what they changed or what went wrong, etc

I love mixing up my routine by trying other blogger’s recipes. Here are a few sites that I haven’t seen mentioned that I really enjoy:

    http://joyinmykitchen.blogspot.com/
    http://oneperfectbite.blogspot.com/

I have tried most of the “frugal recipes of the week” at http://thinnerandwiser.wordpress.com/ . It is not a cooking blog, but her recipes are interesting, fairly easy, and inexpensive.

  15. Ryan says:

I’ve been loving http://www.bethecook.com as of late. The users do step-by-step cooking videos and the recipes are included. I’ve learned a lot and I love the video aspect.

  16. Cassidy Thorn says:

My sister showed me http://www.bethecook.com/ a few months ago and I’ve been using it ever since… Great way to have new recipes every night, my husband and kids love that I’ve become a little chef lol
