Reader Request: good place to have an office Christmas party

Erin needs your help with planning an office Christmas party:

I was wondering if you or anyone else may know of a good place to hold a office Christmas party. I have been given the task of finding a place – there are only about 30 people and the budget can’t go over $1,000.

Can you help Erin plan her office Christmas party with suggestions of affordable places to have a party in Colorado Springs?  Please leave a comment if you have advice to share!

3rd floor Phantom Canyon (located downtown Colorado Springs) is great for office parties. I’ve hosted events here and the staff is great!

    Just a couple of questions.

Daytime or evening? Weekday or weekend?

Is it employees only, or employees and/or families, spouses?

Mostly women, mostly men, even mix?

Do you want something to “do” at the party, or just a place to eat, drink and relax together?

Not trying to be nosy, just thought some more details would help people make better suggestions for you.

I sing and perform in the Glen Eryie Christmas Madrigal Banquet. It is such a fabulous place to have an office party!! Unfortunately, it would be three times the budget of $1000. Tickets are $99 a person. I thought I’d put it out there anyway for anybody else who is looking for something new this year for Christmas. The Glen Eyrie also has another Christmas program, “Music of Christmas with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs.” That is $20 per person (but I do not perform in that : )) Visit http://www.gleneyrie.org/us/ministries/gleneyrie/castle/events for more info.

You can click on the Madrigal gallery and find me in the picture titled, “The Madrigal Singers entertain the guests with song and dance.” I am the one on the left in the gold and green dress.

    Wassail!!

I would recommend Champps in the Briargate shops. They have a room where the doors can close and there is a fireplace too.

I agree with Partlow and would add to that the question – what’s your corporate culture? (Is it classy? Is it informal? Is it stiff? Is it relaxed?)

iT’Z might be an affordable and appropriate outlet if your dealing with families, but not if it’s all adults.

A company I worked for used to rent out entire movie theater showings for us complete with popcorn and drinks.

Another place had pot-luck Christmas parties in the office after work hours.

The company I currently work for has very posh and upscale parties, though in its grassroots they used to be parties of around 20 people or so at the CEO’s house with a couple of dogs running around.

Each party is unique and memorable. And each party style has its own feel and advantages. My only suggestion is that if you have anyone who gets obnoxious when drunk, or if you don’t know one way or the other, keep the drinks alcohol free. If, however, your company is filled with people who can drink in self-controlled moderation, let the champagne corks fly.

Don’t forget that if you provide alcohol that you need to provide rides home, too.

We went to one once at Cheyenne Mountain Resort. We had our own room and a buffet dinner was provided. There was dancing and gambling with fake money, but prizes were given out for most winnings, etc. It was fun. No idea the cost of it, but at least it’s another idea.
We’ve been to the Broadmoor, too but I’m guessing that was pricey.

We own a small and I know it is difficult. Last year we took our employees & families to It’z and had a little competition. Everyone had a play card. The top 3 people with the most tickets after the end of 2 hours won a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize. With the money we saved by having the party here I was able to buy some really nice prizes (about $100 or so each). Everyone had a great time. Then I took all of the tickets at the end and got prizes for all of the kids. It was amazing… just with the top 3 people we had almost 4000 points/tickets.

I would highly recommend Nosh or The Ritz. Both are wonderful!
