The Pikes Peak Library District will be having their winter book sale this weekend, January 27-29! Friends of the Library members can shop on Friday from 4 to 7 PM, then it’s open to the general public from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday.
On Sunday, they’ll have a $5 fill-a-bag sale from 11 AM to 3 PM. (Bags will be provided at the sale). The sale takes place at the East Library (5550 N. Union). Get more info here! Thanks, Springs Education!

Has anyone been to this event before? I’m wondering (and hoping) they’ll have children’s picture books in this sale as well.
I went once a couple years ago. My kids picked out books that I never would have guessed they would like, and they loved them. Most of the books at the sale are the old ones that don’t circulate much, but we’ve been happy to get some new-to-us books cheap.
We went last year and the children’s selection was slim, but I found some delightful old children’s books that my girls just adore. I was also impressed with the selection in the religious/Christian genre last year.
I love these sales. There is a small room for just children books. I took my daughter for her birthday and she found a ton of stuff she liked.
How much do the books cost?
There is usually plenty of selection as they have combined various sales into around 3 a year held at the East Library. The prices are $2/adult hardback, $1/adult softback, $1/kids hardback, and $.50 for kids softback. Also, you get a 20% discount in you are a friend of the library which annually runs $5 for under 17, $20/individual, $30/family. You also get this discount in the library book stores open year round AND you get into the sale on Friday when the selection is greatest. The book sellers (and fellow homeschoolers :) ) also show up then and the sellers grab a lot and quickly. Although they do try to put out a few more books on Sat as room is available the best day to go is Fri. Sun is $5/bag day.
There are usually lots of kids books available including board books, picture books, non-fiction (DK, science, Eyewitness, Usborne, history, crafts, etc.), early readers, and literature for all reading levels. Also, they do sell some used homeschool material and books and, of course, there is plenty of literature, history, music, etc. material available as well as some CD’s and DVD’s. If you love books or reading it is a great place to get some at hard to beat prices. Kids are welcome and my kids are always excited to go and pick out more books to read.
