Oh goodness, US 50 is a beautiful drive but YES it is nerve-wracking in winter! I’ve seen mountain goats there but never bighorn sheep.

We frequently see them on the canyon road (US 50 W) from Canon City to Salida. It’s a nice drive by the river.(but not for the faint of heart in the winter, it can get icy)

Yep, we’ve seen them many times at Glen Eyrie! And Golden Eagles too :)

We actually did get to see a whole herd of them at Garden of the Gods. We took our son to walk around the park one afternoon and there were over 20 of them on one of the low bluffs next to the road near the Northern parking lot. Very cool and quite a nice surprise.

I was on a tour at Glen Eyrie once and they claimed to see them there “all the time”. I was skeptical but maybe it’s true! :)

Glen Eyrie is where we’ve seen them, scaling the rocks all above where the cars were parked. Amazing!

Yes! Once when we went to Glen Eyrie there were several big horn sheep standing right along the road.

Carrie visit Rocky Mountain National Park. The rangers can tell you when & where to see big horn sheep. They travel the same path daily. Of course you should wait till there is a free admission day!
