Free Trees Are Back: Apply By March 16th!

Colorado Springs residents can once again get a free tree to plant streetside!  The program is a little different than it was in the past, and it doesn’t appear that there’s an age requirement for your house to qualify (seems like it used to have to be five years old or newer).

Applications are due March 16th, and you can download the application here (PDF).  You do have to pick up and plant the tree, and they should be posting pickup dates and times on their website in March.

There is no application at the link.

  2. Valerie says:

It used to be a home that was 10 years or newer. We took advantage of it, and got 3 nice sized trees for our corner lot!

  3. Valerie says:

Another difference, they used to give out certificates for $150 per tree that you could use at certain nurseries in town. It looks like now you just get what they give you. We were able to buy bigger trees by adding some of our funds to the certificate.

We did this a few years ago and the only qualification then was that it had to be planted in the area between the sidewalk and the street, the age of our house wasn’t part of the deal. Maybe it was because we live downtown? Anyway, our tree is doing great! We got the Tatarian maple because the pear tree was already gone by the time we applied. Our neighbors across the street have a Catalpa.

  5. Cathy says:

we don’t have any land between the side walk and road. does anyone know if we can still get a tree?

  6. Krystal says:

We don’ even have sidewalks in our older neighborhood. Would we be eligible?

  7. Stacy says:

The page links mentioned above error out now. Is it too late to send in an application? I sent mine in the day this come out but my neighbors also want to apply.
