What To Make With What’s On Sale: Biscuit Dough

It’s time for this week’s What To Make With What’s On SalePillsbury Grands Refrigerated Biscuits are as low as $0.69 each after coupon this week at Safeway.  Even if you’re not a fan of eating canned biscuits, there are lots of creative ways to use refrigerated biscuit dough in cooking.  Here are some ideas!

Here’s a fun recipe from Paula Deen for Donuts and Holes made from refrigerated biscuits.  This look like a fun food project to make with the kids!

Monkey bread is another sweet treat that can be made with canned biscuits.  This classic recipe calls for the basic ingredients of biscuit dough, sugar, cinnamon and butter.  If you want to change it up a bit, try this Monkey Bread with a Twist (which calls for chopped apples) or this one, Bananas Foster Monkey Bread.

Here’s just one more dessert recipe I must share: Apple Dumplings.  I’ve made these before and I’d recommend coarsely chopping the apples first, and reducing the water to half a cup.  Otherwise, this recipe is delicious and so easy to make!

Refrigerated biscuits are also great for making appetizers.  These appetizer recipe ideas — Taco Tarts and Cream Cheese Tarts — only require a few simple ingredients.  Try experimenting with the recipes by using different fillings and seasonings!

Here are a couple of chicken & biscuit-type recipes: Cheater Pot Pie — a very simple recipe that takes 15 minutes or less to put together — and Chef John’s Chicken and Biscuits — a more involved recipe, but which still uses refrigerated biscuits.  (Both of these recipes would be great with turkey in place of chicken…if you still have leftover turkey in the freezer from Thanksgiving, like I do!) :)

A couple of years ago Money Saving Mom asked this question on her blog: “What are your most creative ideas for using up canned biscuits?”  Read through the comments on her blog post to find lots of fun and tasty ways to use your Pillsbury Grands!

  1. I use canned biscuits for my chicken and dumplings. And it tastes just like my momma’s (she makes hers from scratch).

  2. Thank you soooo much, this is perfect! My son loves the biscuits right out of the oven, me…not so much. I don’t buy the dough too often, mostly because I don’t know what to make with them, but this time I bought 4, and I don’t know that wether can freeze them…..I am def gonna try some of these!

  3. Carrie,

How about a “What to Make with What’s On Sale” Fruit Snacks edition! :)

  4. best thing I can think of to do with a canned biscuit is to cook it up and smother the life out of it with sausage gravy! mmmmm…..

  5. We make mini pizzas with them! Flatten them out with a rolling pin, bake slightly then add sauce, toppings and cheese and bake until golden brown and gooey! The kids love them, and its great for using leftovers…leftover grilled chicken, alfredo sauce, veggies and cheese. Serve with a salad and you have a quick-cheap dinner!

  6. Monkey Bread is always good to make with biscuits, you can also go to the Pillsbury website they have a ton of recipes that use biscuits.

  7. jeanette says:

The can itself says do not freeze. Does it change the flavor or texture?

  8. Christina says:

We make monkey bread or individual pot pie the kids love them. No don’t freeze them I tried in the can exploded out of the can and sealed they were gross and did not bake well. I was not even going to taste them they looked so bad.

  9. Sometimes I make “Pineapple Biscuits” for breakfast (creative name, eh?). You just put the biscuits in a pan, pour a can of crushed pineapple on top, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Bake until, well, until done.

My best friend and I would make these for her family when we would play “bed and breakfast” growing up, so they bring back fond memories for me. Last time, I actually made my own biscuits and it turned out great!

  10. For anyone still interested in recipes, we like making BBQ muffins with biscuit dough. Here’s one recipe http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Farmhouse-Barbecue-Muffins
or substitute with your favoirte barbeque sauce.

  11. I freeze them I take them out of the can and put them on a cookie sheet and stick them in the freezer till frozen about 30min then I stick them in a freezer bag. we like to make mini pizzas also a bbq chicken mini pizza is great with left over chicken
