Free Family Events On Saturday: Traveling Sea, Meet A Llama, And More

These events at the library and Pioneer Museum caught my eye as something fun and free to do with the kids this weekend:

Llamas in the Library

Meet a llama from a ranch in Black Forest and learn about llama wool, as well as turn llama wool into felt!  This event will be held twice on Saturday, April 28th – 10:30 AM at the Westside Communicty Center (1628 Bijou Street) and 2:00 PM at the Fountain Library.

Traveling Sea

The Traveling Sea will be making a stop at the Briargate library on Saturday, April 28th at 1:30 PM.  You can get up close and personal with “unusual sea animals” (I’m having a hard time finding what exactly they might be but it sounds fun regardless!) and make an ocean craft.

Children’s History Hour @ The Pioneer Museum

We’ve been to the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum before and the kids had a great time, but I had no idea they have a monthly event for kids!  The last Saturday of each month is Children’s History Hour, where they “read a children’s book, offer a family-friendly tour, and create fun crafts.”

On Saturday, April 28th, at 10:30 AM, they’ll be learning about rocks and minerals as they feature the book Julie the Rockhound, to coordinate with Colorado Archaeology and Historical Preservation Month.  Space is limited and you’ll need to call 719.385.5990 to RSVP.

Don’t forget that four-year-olds can get a free book at the library this week!

  1. We attended the travelling sea at the Rockrimmon Library several months ago and they had two small sea creatures (I can’t remember for sure but I believe they had a hermit crab and a sea anemone) the kids could hold and touch as well as a related craft the kids could make.
