Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado in Pueblo (296-6995) is taking food donations for Colorado Springs fire in Pueblo at their Southside office and at the new Goodwill near the Mall. Please share this and donate if you can.
Ok I feel dumb but what is #10 cans? Is it 10 lb cans or are the cans marked?
#10 cans are the large ones you’ll find in stores that are usually used for food services or if you need to make a ton of beans or whatever at a time. It is also the size used by many companies for survival foods/dehydrated foods.
Does anyone know where you may be able to donate clothing to the evacuees? I have men and women’s clothes in good shape that I was going to take to ARC but I would rather give them to someone who needs them now!
I just took a carload to the Marian Soup Kitchen downtown on Bijou east of I-25. I heard that Goodwill was helping out evacuees also.
I took a load of food to Care and Share this afternoon at 11:45 and the line was backed up to Powers but it was worth the wait. It went quickly and they were very appreciative.
Good to know, I took toiletries to Walgreens today and she said all Walgreens are taking donations for Care and Share.
I’m going to guess that there will be arrangements made so that the evacuees can get clothing vouchers, and it would be a safe bet that GoodWill will be involved. I would feel safe in the knowledge that anything donated to GoodWill will get to those most in need.
I was just watching the news and they said Goodwill is asking for kid’s items clothes, toys etc. Care and Share is asking for NEW socks for firefighters as well as baby powder and eyedrops.
Thanks, Erin!
You’re welcome, I also just received an email from my Vet @ Pine Creek Veterinary Hospital that they need volunteers to help walk dogs they have taken in from evacuees. They walk at 7:30a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 5:00-5:30 p.m. You can call their office at 955-0966 to schedule a time that works for you.
Vista Grande Baptist Church (NW corner of Powers and Stetson Hills) is a full-scale Care & Share drop off today (Thursday). They are not busy yet and have a wonderful group of volunteers who can help you. You can even drop off without getting out, just pull over at the side door with the yellow sign!
I saw on the news last night that Louies Pizza is accepting items for care and share too. Call to be sure tho.
Thanks for posting the needs, Carrie! It’s so helpful to those of us who would like to help, but sometimes aren’t sure how to know specifically how we CAN help!
Sam’s Club on S Academy was taking donations yesterday…I would think they still are.
The U.S. Taekwondo centers (4 locations) are also accepting donations.
All YMCA locations are also accepting doantions for Care and Share.
Terra Verde is taking financial donations for the red cross, they will match your donation, upto either 3,000 or 5,000. Can remember for sure.
I don’t know how long they are doing this for but that’s awesome!
This in from Janet:
“In support of the children impacted by the Waldo Canyon Fire, the Junior League of Colorado Springs is organizing a toy drive Friday, June 29, 2012 at Security Service Field, home of Sky Sox baseball. Please see the attached press release for donation details. We are also in need of volunteers to assist us in traffic control, collecting, sorting and packing these items to then be delivered to the children at the evacuation centers tomorrow between the hours of 7AM and 5PM. Please click on the following link if you could donate your time to support the children. http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/542345634376800042 ( http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/542345634376800042 ) . If you have any questions, please contact Marne O’Brien-Hillis, Junior League President, at (719) 235-8328.”
Does anyone know of locations where me and my 2 older kids could volunteer our time? Care and share was all booked and I don’t know that we will make it in time tomorrow for toy drive. Thanks
Joni,
