Reader Request: Orthodontist Recommendations

Rachel writes:

I am looking for a great orthodontist in Colorado Springs near the Powers corridor. My 9 year old needs to start treatment. I want a doctor that will allow me to accompany her to the exam/treatment room. Any referrals?

  1. Doctor townsend is fabulous

  2. So, they aren’t exactly in the area you are looking for, but I LOVED Arango Orthodontics for my child. They use the Damon Brackets that worked wonders for my child. Her teeth were very bad, her mouth over-crowded and they thought they may have to extract at least 4 of her teeth to get them to fit properly. With the Damon System, NO extractions, teeth were straight 6 months before expected, and I have one happy little smile on that child! On a normal visit, they bring the kiddos back into an open room with several chairs where several kiddos can be worked on at the same time by different technicians. The orthodontist checks them out before they leave. It always meant our visits took the least amount of time as possible. They have some video games in the back, and always had cookies and coffee for me :). It was a comfortable environment and they were a couple of Thousand dollars cheaper than most other places around. If you go, please tell them Tammy Woods referred you. :) full disclosure here, I would get a credit for referring, but I really, really liked them so much I would do it even if I got nothing for it!

    • Oops! probably should give you info on them!

  3. Our daughter is at Smiles for Colorado Orthodontics. They aren’t close to us or you but the office has been great with our daughter. She can get temper-mental at times and they work with her. The orthodontist is Terry Bangorn. They are located at 1539 South 8th Street Suite 200
    Colorado Springs, Co 80905 – Phone: (719) 227-7645.

  4. We have used Dr. Scott Suter for all three of my girls. They have separate areas for each of the patients and parents are very welcome!

    • Another Dr. Suter fan! We checked out several orthodontist when we moved to CoSprings 6 years ago. He was the most affordable, with the friendliest staff of all the places we visited! I know of three other families who used him, all were happy with the services provided as well as the cost. I especially like that he is very cautious about “Phase One” care…he will not do Phase One unless he feels it is absolutely necessary!

      • Kristine says:

Dr. Suter and his staff are SUPER!! We don’t have dental insurance…he had the best rates for the orthodontics my daughter needed, plus we got 10% off by paying for all the treatment up front (plus the credit card rebate!). We couldn’t be happier with him, and will take our other kids to him, too.

        • Kristine says:

BTW–I went with my 10 year old every time, even took the 4yo right into the treatment/exam areas, and they always accommodated us and answered all of my questions.

          • We went with Dr. Suter after comparing prices at 4 orthodontists. His price was far and away the best. His staff is excellent, the office is like a well-oiled machine! My kids are encouraged to check themselves in and carry their records back to the treatment area (they really like doing that, it makes them feel like they are part of the team!). I am welcome in the treatment area and the entire staff is SO friendly and professional. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

PS – they offer no interest financing and a multiple child discount. If you can pay in full at the beginning of treatment, there is a 10% discount. With the discounts I ended up saving over 2,000.00 off the cost of three sets of braces!

  5. We use Dr. Chad Watts at Rangewood Orthodontics. They are near Woodmen and Rangewood and also have an office in Monument. They also use the Damon system and I have them myself along with my son. Parents are allowed in treatment room. I see it all the time. Dr. Watts was recently profiled in the May/June issue of Colorado Springs Style Magazine as one of the top orthodontists in the Springs. The treatment time was much shorter than traditional orthodontics and it was at least $1000 cheaper. They have clear brackets if you want them too. I have them myself. They usually have a $300 coupon for new patients in one of those magazines that come in the mail but you can also give them my name, Audrey Cassibry, as they give referral credits too. http://www.rangewoodorthodontics.com

  6. Heather says:

My daughter goes to All Smiles Dental Group on N. Carefree and Powers. Their prices were the cheapest we found in the area. The orthodontist are great with kids. Everyone in the office are really nice. They have their own little ortho area so you can go back with your child. They explain everything to you each appointment, the progress your child is making and what needs to be done next. Their number is 599-0665

    • Cindy T. says:

We have used the Orthodontists at All Smiles for three of our kids and have one more to go. We have been using them for over 11 years. They are located at the corner of N.Carefree and Powers kind of infront of Target there. From what I understand one of the DDS. Helped create the invisaline technology.

  7. Brittany Naujok says:

My daughter is a patient at Dr. Andrews, who is located on Telstar Drive behind the Shops at Briargate. We visited and received estimates from several locations across the Springs, and they were the most thorough, the most realistic, but also the most affordable and forecast the least amount of time for her orthodontic needs.
Parents are welcome back with their children, and they can see multiple kids at once so your time is minimal. They also have an incentive program for the kids so that they are working and doing their best to help and accelerate the situation.
Since no one is perfect, and I know I would like an honest evaluation, I will tell you that their hours can be difficult if you don’t plan ahead. They are only open I think 3 days a week here in town, and then one day at Woodland Park. Besides that and one grumpy secretary, we really enjoy their office, services, and all they are doing to help our child.

  8. We use Dr. Erickson on research and Scarborough and really like him. Getting ready to take our 13 yr old in. He did great things with our 17 yr old

    • Bethany says:

We used Dr. Josh Erickson at Erickson pediatric dentistry and Orthodontics. He was fantastic. He was sure to keep my 9 year old comfortable the whole time she was there and even would call at night to make sure she was doing okay. He never had a problem with me going back in the exam room or my other kids too. I would highly recommend him.

      • Another family who LOVES Dr. Erickson on Powers and Research. Our kids are so comfortable with him and it is so nice he is a dentist as well as an ortho. He is very relaxed about their treatments and has been comfortable with waiting and seeing what is taking place as well as letting us know exactly what is time sensitive.

  9. Dr. Skelton on the NW corner of Research and Powers is awesome! Great office staff too! His wife works with him. You often seen one of their children in the office as they homeschool them and have a designated room for them in the office for school.
Dr. Skelton completed his dental and orthodontic school training in Houston, Texas. He graduated with a rank of #1 in his dental and orthodontic classes. He earned numerous other awards and accolades including an award for excellence in periodontics. He has 25+ years of experience and earned his Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1986.

I and my neighbor both use Dr. Skelton. We both have our second child just now starting into orthodontia. Our first were both patients of Dr. Skeltons and have beautiful smiles now!!!

  10. Be careful. If you start treatment at age nine you maybe redoing it at 18. The longer you wait ( 12-15) the better and longer results you will have.

    • That can be true but if a child has a crossbite they like to fix it early as it can change the way their face grows. Then they can wait a few years to do the rest. If your dentist said you need to have a consult I’d go. Then get a second or third opinion based on what they say. They all do free consultations.

  12. We have been super pleased with Skelton Orthodontics located at Research and Powers! Love that the way they do the process you only have to come in for adjustments every 6 weeks instead of the every four weeks that we have had with other orthodontists. Great Christian family who do great work to give you beautiful teeth! Free consult complete with pano xray of the mouth. Their number is 487-9303.

  13. Thank you all for the info!
I will be working on scheduling evals this week.

Love all the feedback – very helpful.
I will keep you posted how it goes :)
