An Outreach to the Mountain Shadows Community

Update: due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been canceled.  We hope to do something in the future and will let you know when there is an opportunity!

Today, I’m so excited to announce another effort that we are coordinating to reach out to those affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire. In partnership with Mission Foods and Ranch Foods Direct, along with King Soopers and Austin Bluffs Evangelical Free Church, Springs Bargains will be delivering meals of enchiladas and homemade cookies to the families that have returned to their homes in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood on Saturday, August 4th!

Though the people we are going to reach did not lose their homes, they have still been devastated by the fire. After days of evacuation, they have returned to a blackened neighborhood to deal with smoke, water, and fire damage to their properties, and are faced with the potential of floods and mudslides.

We’d like to reach out to these families and give them a simple, homecooked meal to show them that their community cares about them. We saw some amazing things from our city in the wake of the Waldo Canyon Fire, and I’m excited to coordinate an opportunity to do something personal for our neighbors.

I’ve heard over and over from you that you want to do something tangible to help the people in our community affected by the fire – and you’ve already shown how generous you are as you came together to help Byron and Becky this week. This is another opportunity for you to reach out in a personal way.

Mission Foods will be providing some of their delicious tortillas, and Ranch Foods Direct will be providing some of their Callicrate ground beef. King Soopers has also signed on with a donation, and we’ll be requesting donations of some of the other food items from you. We would love for some of you who love to bake to participate by making cookies. We’ll also need some volunteers to help assemble the enchiladas on Friday, August 3rd at Austin Bluffs Evangelical Free Church, who is graciously allowing us to use their facility to prepare the meals. Our goal is to deliver 100 pans of enchiladas and 100 dozen homemade cookies on Saturday, August 4th.

I hope you’ll join us in whatever way you can to show the Mountain Shadows neighborhood that their city loves them!

  1. I am so excited about this, Carrie! I am eager for the upcoming details on how we can help make this outreach happen. My Mom recently gave me her famous (only famous amongst those who have ever tried them!) chocolate chip cookie recipe. I’ve never successfully made them, so I’m glad I have some time to practice before August 4!

I live in Mountain Shadows and it is very sad to be out and about in the neighborhood and see the devastation. I purposely avoided taking my daughter to our regular park for a while as I wasn’t ready to see the homes that had been lost in the fire. We’ve been to the park 3 days in a row now, but I still can’t get over the change in the landscape. I don’t know if that’s an adjustment that will be made over time or not. And the potential for flooding is always on my mind when I hear we’ll be getting rain. We were very fortunate to have a home to come back to, but I can’t help but wonder if our neighborhood will be hit again when we have a big storm.

Thank you so much for all the work you are putting into this outpouring of love. I know it will deeply touch the people of Mountain Shadows.

  2. Awesome! This is something I can do to help. Looking forward to more details!

  3. Would love to help in any way I can! Thanks for organizing this!!!
