I’m at the point that I don’t care if Albertson’s is giving stuff away, I won’t go there. Two different locations and almost always I walk out without half my list because they are out of items! In PA, stores have to have documentation that they’ve purchased enough to meet expected sales. It seems that stores out here don’t have to do the same, or we have an excessive amount of shelf clearers. I can’t decide which. It doesn’t matter where I go in town, or how early, but I wind up leaving with more rainchecks than product. It’s really frustrating. At one safeway, when I went to customer service, the agent complained about a women with literally dozens of coupons for the all detergent, who took ALL THEY HAD the moment they opened and then demanded several rainchecks as well! I’m not used to dealing with such rude behavior.
If I want to get several of one offer, I’ll go back on different days, or go to different stores. We had several couponers at home, and we were always polite and respectful to each other, and the stores would special order for us if we wanted large quantities. Do they not do that here? I have more rainchecks from couponing in Colorado springs for 2 and a half months than I did in over three years in PA.
Are there stores somewhere that aren’t so busy, or, well, empty shelved? I’ve had to go to the grocery store almost every single day trying to put food on the table here. It’s so frustrating and honestly, it’s making me miserable. I don’t have time to do ten couponing trips a week, and I don’t have enough money to skip the coupons and just shop. Any rate, Albertson’s seems to be the worst at it. I would appreciate if anyone knows of a store that’s not quite so busy, so I can go there. We never clear shelves.
I agree, it is like they understock!
I feel your pain Heather! I moved here from Houston last October and let me tell you, it is a challenge to coupon here. My last two shopping trips to Albertsons (which is rare that I shop there), I had to get rain checks. Don’t get me started on Safeway! The one on Colorado Ave near Manitou is full of rude managers and cashiers. One of them actually accused my husband of stealing inserts out of the paper when all he was doing was checking to see if they were in there. Ludacris!
My husband still loves to shop there because of their meat deals from time to time. I check the weekly ad, and if there is something I can’t live without, I send my husband to get it. Lol! I refuse to shop there after the way we were treated.
I’ve had the most luck with King Sooper on Centennial. I usually only shop on the weekend. Early Saturday or Sunday mornings seem to be ok. But it does get busy there after about 11:00am. I haven’t had a problem yet with shelf clearers there. Couponing in general, the Mega Events at KS is when I have the best percentage outcome. Prices are a bit higher here than in Tx. which can be a bit frustrating. There have been many shopping trips that I have been to where I come home feeling absolutely defeated! I don’t want to give up though, because we are a one income family. I rely on those coupons. I know it can be done.
Houston has it’s fair share of shelf clearers too. If you didn’t get to a sale the morning of the start of the sale, you are out of luck! It was pretty bad. I had more luck with savings percentage there. Anyway, good luck! I hope you find a store that you can rely on!
Albertson’s IS the worst about not having the sale items. I used to go to the ones on the north end of the Springs, but I have only gone to Albertson’s maybe twice in the last couple years. I would say take your Albertson’s ad to Walmart and price match, the cashiers at Walmart have never given me any trouble about it and that way you don’t have to worry about rainchecks. Walmart doesn’t double coupons, but it has been a rare week that Albertson’s does that anymore anyway.
Safeway is pretty bad about having rude employees, but a few of them are okay at the Powers store, so I deliberately go out of my way to get in a longer line to wait for a cashier that I know is more pleasant. I avoid their customer service desk at all costs though, every employee I’ve dealt with there has been less than courteous. Safeway’s new Just for You program is already saving me a lot of money, and they still double coupons, so at this point I can’t justify not going to Safeway at all. I think sometimes you just have to choose to make your experience ‘the least annoying one possible’ if you want/have to save money on your groceries. :)
How are the Walmarts around here? I swore off Wally world at home because it was a terrible, terrible place. I’ve had cashiers curse at me…and I wasn’t even couponing! It’s good to read that other people have trouble sourcing sale items, too. I didn’t even think to try it out here.
Heather,
I generally go to the Walmart on Powers/Palmer Park, maybe twice a month, and I have never had problems with the cashiers. Definitely the biggest problem I have with any Walmart here is long lines – if you go at the wrong time of day or on the wrong day of the week. I try not to go on weekends (especially Saturday) or during late afternoons weekdays because those seem to be the busiest times. Maybe the cashiers are nicer when it’s less busy? I’m nicer when there’s no crowds too :)
I also just noticed in their ad that Target is doing price matching as well, so if there’s a Supertarget near you, that would be another option for matching grocery sale items. They don’t carry as many varieties of items, but if they have what you are looking for it would be convenient and their lines always seem to be short. Plus if you have and use their red card it’s an automatic 5 cents off per dollar you spend (a ‘coupon’ I love to use!). They don’t double manufacturer coupons, but they do put some grocery coupons on their website, and you can use a Target coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same item, which sometimes makes for some nice deals. Hope this helps!
Just know that Target won’t price match anything that’s “with card” so pricematching King Soopers or Safeway doesn’t work. You have to go to the customer service counter to pricematch, not a regular checkout.
I’ve had good experiences pricematching at Walmart here. I try to not go when it’s busy, and not pricematch *too* much. Here’s some tips: http://denverbargains.com/2011/10/how-to-price-match-at-walmart/
My Albertsons ad had a specific flyer with coupons for the GOG/Centennial store. The 11oz blueberries are 99 cents with the coupon! I’m not the biggest Albertsons fan, but in general their fresh food doesn’t sell out so worth a trip!
Wow, sweet! Any other great deals just at that store?
I tore it in half and don’t have the other coupon anymore… not something we buy whatever it is! There is a picture of the fried chicken meal on the other side of the blueberry coupon :)
Thanks for the heads up! I’m a blueberry freak! My husband actually works very close to that location. I’ll be sending him after work. That’s definitely worth going to.
Shelby, just wanted to make sure you are aware that it’s a coupon for the blueberriesl, not just a special price at that location. I don’t know if they’ll have the coupons available in the store too or not.
I got a coupon flyer in the mail only for the GoG Albies… but not in my paper with the ad … it kind of looked like a KS “valued customer” coupon flyer, with blueberries 99 cents (limit 2), Albertson Spring Water 24 pack 1.99 (limit 2), and boneless breasts or thighs 1.49/lb. (limit 4 lbs. redeem in the butcher block) valid 8/15 – 8/21. Don’t know how wide the circulation was for this flyer…I live about 5 minutes from this store.
I didn’t get the flyer. :(
I have had a great deal of problems at Albertsons also, but I price matchat Walmart, and most of the time that is a lot less complicated, but the secret is out, and sometime THEY are even out of things that have good sales/coupons. I have not had issues with the cashiers when I have printed my list from Springs Bargains! It helps me to keep the stores straight that I am matching, and then I can show them the ad if they ask (not very often). I go to the Safeway on Constitution and Powers, and I have to say that I have had a few issues with the Just for U price, but I always print my list of things I have added, and when I show it to them I have had NO issues getting a refund. They take my coupons happily and I don’t clear the shelves. I have had issues at the Safeway on Colorado Ave, so when I shop for my MIL I do it at “my” store, even though the other one is closer to her house.
