  1. How are you getting Progresso Recipe Starters down to $0.20 a can? Thanks for your help.

  2. does safeway have a max number of same/similar coupons they’ll accept? i read through their coupon policy and didn’t see anything listed, but I wanted to check before i went.

  3. Sarah H. says:

Yay! We have been out of fruit snacks for a while, and my kids have almost finished off the cereal from the Albertsons sale a while back! I am definitely going to Safeway this week!

  4. I hate when I loose coupons. I went to get fruit snacks and treat bars today and used self check-out. I was scanning coupons and it appeared that each one went through but when I got home I looked at my receipt and I didn’t get credit for 7 coupons total. I never got any message on the screen like normal so now I’m out 7 coupons which total 7.00. If I would of caught it at the store I would of been able to get my coupons back but I was in a hurry and didn’t take the time to look since it all appeared good. Aaacckkk. :-( Sorry to vent but I knew you would understand.

    • Argh, that’s frustrating! I always feel a little helpless when I put them in the little self-checkout hole. :) Sorry you didn’t get your coupon credit. :(

  5. Bought five boxes of the fiber one chewy bars today and received a $3 off next purchase as well! There was also a coupon awhile back for the motts fruit snacks .50/off 1, making them free! And the GM cereal bars on sale included other flavors not listed in the ad! Great deals at Safeway this week, thanks for all the great work!

  6. Some other cereals on sale too at 1.49. Golden Graham’s, all chex, trix, and total. I found some boxes of total that had $1 off peelies on them so that was a nice surprise.

  7. Mommy Kane says:

Has anyone been having problems with the printable coupons not scanning at Safeway? Especially the ones with only one bar code. The last few times I have gone they won’t scan and then they won’t manually input them either. ;( I am scared to go and find none of my coupons will work.

    • Joanna L. says:

Had a hard time with the printable coupons also they just checked that I had the certain items and manually put them in.

    • I’ve had trouble with some of my printable coupons there lately, too. I usually go to the self check out, and the employees there have been great about manually entering them for me.

      • thanks god i thought something was not right with my printer as none of the printable coupon scan at safeway but thanks to the cashiers they just manually enter it but its a pain

    • Mommy Kane says:

Well I gave it a go this afternoon, since most of my coupons were from inserts and I only had a few printables. I am happy to say I had no problems at all! It was a great trip, spent $39.40 (which included a few none coupon items, gak!) and I saved $98.90, that’s 72%! Plus I got two $3 cats back!

      • which safeway store did you go?? and did your printable coupons scanned or had to be manually entered thanks

    • I kind of avoid using printables at Safeway for that reason. :( I haven’t had issues myself because I avoid it due to hearing about too many bad experiences from you guys, lol!

  8. Stefanie says:

Two of my kids LOVE the Toaster Strudels, 2/$4 (with the $0.50/2 coupon) is not really a great price, I think, BUT if you are willing to buy 6 of them you can do the following deal:

    6 Toaster Strudels = $15
Use the $5/$15 of any frozen items in-ad coupon
    Use 3 $0.50/2 Toaster Strudel
–> you pay $7 for 6 of them or $1.17 each

I’m new to couponing so I don’t know what rating that would be.

    • Mommy Kane says:

Ooh, that is a great deal. I heard the Breyer’s ice cream is also 2.99 at Safeway this week, so with the printable .50 coupon doubled they are $1.99 (just like at Kings). This would fit into the frozen foods deal well also! Thanks for the heads up. We like toaster strudels and they haven’t gone on sale much over the last year and a half. $1.17 sounds pretty nice to me!

    • Nice, that’s a great deal!

  9. Heads up! The Safeway at Union/Academy only has 3 boxes of fruit snacks left (thanks to me). :)

  10. stephanie says:

just thought i would let you guys know they have betty crocker sugar cookie mix on sale for 99 and with the 75/2 printable off of coupons.com makes it 50.

  11. Is the Yoplait catalina deal $10 before or after coupons?

    • I believe it is before the Manufacture coupons but after the Safeway coupons. For example, if you are buying the yoplait kids yogurt that has the in ad coupon, calauclate the cost to be $1.88 but if you are using a $.75/2 manufacture coupon, it should not affect the $10 purchase requirement. Does that make since?

    • Sarah, Hannah’s right on! :)

  12. AJ Fahlstrom says:

All this month (August 1-31), Sav-a-Lot has Hillshire Farms smoked sausages for $1.99. Also, avocados @ 2/$1, yellow onions 3# bag for $1.49, Chex Mix 4.5 oz bags for $1/each, and Betty Crocker boxed potatoes at $1/ea. I’ve gotten price matches at Walmart for these with no problems.

  13. Just 4 U – anyone having issues getting these to come off, after you’ve added them to your card? Previously my receipt clearly printed out when they were applied, but today I think (or can’t tell if) it was applied — I may have been overcharged on 3 items.

I plan to return to the store tomorrow and have a chit-chat with Management to sort it out. It would be better for everyone if it was just clear(er).

    • Yeah, I wish it were clearer, too. I did some Just for U deals this weekend and at first I didn’t think they all came off, but then I noticed at the bottom of the receipt there was a random discount of like $2.32, which was probably the Just for U deals that weren’t showing up above. I’m not a fan of how they are lumping all the discounts together… It’s just a muddled mess. If it worked right, it might be great, but obviously not all the stuff is coming off right or I wouldn’t have a random discount off “nothing” at the bottom.

      • I haven’t signed up for Just for U yet, but the way coupons in general come off their receipts now is so confusing. It is really hard to check that everything came off when it just has a $3 discount under the product instead of listing each coupon separately. This week, I just finally added up what I thought I should have paid and it ended up being similar (not the same), so I figured that was good enough. I hope they change their receipts back to the way they were.

    • I had a some deals that didn’t come off and the lady at CS was not very pleasant about giving me the money back on the items because she said she was told “all the bugs were worked out”. I showed her my phone with the Safeway app that the discounts were supposed to come off, she finally gave me the money but she wasn’t very happy about it. It never fails I always get the one crabby cashier in the store..lol!

  14. Marie Beauregard says:

I am having luck with the Just for U. I was able to get a 20% off of produce which made the grapes even cheaper. I also got 50% off bread-I got some clearance bread and actually made money on it. I also got .99 for safeway ketchup. In the store it was buy one get one free so it actually ended up being .99 for 2 even though instore price was 1.29.

  15. For the Totino’s pizzas, I bought 16 for $16
    -used two $1.10/5 coupons and
    -two $.50/3 coupons and
-$5/$15 in frozen foods Safeway store coupon.

    So $16 – $9.20 in coupons = $6.80 for 16 pizzas = $0.43 each! :)

If you don’t want 16 pizzas in your freezer, you could go in on this with a friend and share the bounty…

    • I wish I had room for 16 pizza’s. I may have to rearrange a freezer. My daughter and husband eat these alot for a quick snack or meal.

      • You can take them out of the boxes and they’ll take up a little less space! Totino’s wrappers are kind of flimsy so I wouldn’t do that if you intend to keep them for a long time, but I think they’d be fine for a few weeks.

  16. In the “regular coupon center” part of Safeway’s e-coupons, I found:
$1/1 Life Cereal – making it $0.99 with the sale
$1/1 Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal (or Lucky Charms) – to use with the buy 4/save $4 promo. (one less to print!)
Also, there’s a $2/1 Caribou Coffee coupon that doesn’t expire until January 2013…it is one time use, but that will be great to have on hand when that brand goes on sale! :)

  17. I had an interesting experience at the Safeway in Monument this afternoon. When I hit the aisle with the fruit snacks/cereal/granola bars, etc. I pulled out my coupons and started shopping and I was initially alone in the aisle (me and my boys, that is). The shelves seemed very well stocked for it being a Tuesday and the last day of the sale and I was very happy with the selection. Then a couple came in behind who clearly had coupons and were there to shop for fruit snacks as well. I grabbed a dozen boxes of fruit snacks and moved on to granola bars while they filled their cart pretty full. I would guess somewhere around 20 boxes or more. Within seconds of them leaving the aisle the manager came huffing down the aisle complaining about how there were no more fruit snacks left and that he just wanted to cancel the sale. He was VERY angry! He had another employee with him who he immediately instructed not to issue any rainchecks for the fruit snacks and then spent several more minutes complaining about sales and couponers while glancing my direction every now and again. After finishing my shopping, I got to the cashier and she leaned over and whispered to me, “Just so you know….I’m not going to call the manager but he’s not going to be allowing this anymore.” Apparently he had told all of the cashiers to call him if anyone tried to check out with a number of items that did not “seem reasonable for one family”. She told me that the other couple had just recently gone through her aisle and she had called him and he had spent some time yelling at them. She did say that he had not given her a number and that she was not sure if my trip would be reasonable or not, just that she understood that sometimes people need to use coupons and that she wouldn’t call the manager on me this time. Then she told me that apparently King Soopers has a coupon limit policy and that their manager was working on getting the same policy for them. (I wouldn’t have even violated KS’s policy today, though!) Seriously, it was the most unsettling thing I have ever experienced couponing. I did NOT violate any coupon policies (I know because I checked) and I do not consider myself a pushy couponer. (I bought all 12 boxes in one transactions, even though it would have been better to split it up and get more catalinas.) It seems this manager has a real issue with those of us who use coupons, and it would be best to steer clear. Maybe I need to start shopping at a Safeway in the Springs? But I thought I’d share and warn you guys. The cashier also told me that the other couple were known to be in the store quite often and were very pushy with their coupons, so apparently they have ruffled a few feathers. Ugghhhh……I’m not sure what this means for future Safeway shopping. :(
