What do you use as a “Teacher ID” if you’re a homeschool parent?

When I posted the Texas Roadhouse freebie for teachers earlier today, I wondered if there was a way for a homeschool mom to take advantage of teacher freebies when they require a school ID?  I’ve heard some moms say that they make school IDs for their kids and themselves or get them from a support group.  Do you, as a homeschooling mom, have any sort of teacher ID so you can get discounts offered to teachers?

  1. In the past I have made myself and my kiddos School ID cards, printed and laminated. But now I am using my HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) card as it says “Educator ID” on the bottom of the membership card.

  2. Sharon F. says:

I assigned my daughter to make ID cards for me and the kids – they came out great!

  3. As a homeschooling Mom, I think it would only be fair to make sure that it is the intention of the business to honor homeschool Moms. I’d love to have the freebie, but not at the cost of potentially taking something that wasn’t meant for me. By asking for ID, it seems the business is trying to make sure they are honoring only professional, out of the home, teachers.
The homeschool Moms who went before me made my path a lot easier by fighting political, societal and educational battles well. In gratitude to them and in preserving the legacy for future home schoolers, I try to continue to walk in integrity.

    • I agree that you should honor the business’s intention, but it seems like a lot of them are more than happy to extend it to homeschoolers, but still have to have some sort of ID.
