What To Make With What’s On Sale: Tuna Pouches

Lots of great sales are going on this week — it was difficult deciding which item to focus on for What To Make With What’s On Sale!  I finally went with tuna: Safeway has Starkist tuna pouches (2.6 oz) for as low as $0.25 after coupon.

Packaged tuna is a versatile pantry food, especially good for those days when you need to get a meal on the table quickly.  Here are some ideas for using tuna pouches (or canned tuna)!

If you’re tired of the same old tuna salad sandwiches, try one of these more interesting versions: Tuna Tortas with Pico de Gallo (which would also be perfect for a green salad topping or a wrap filling) or this Southern Apple Tuna Salad (many reviewers suggested doubling the amount of mayo.)

Here’s another yummy-looking sandwich recipe — Starkist’s Bolder Burger.  The recipe calls for the Herb & Garlic variety of tuna, so if you’re using plain tuna be sure to add some extra seasoning to the burgers!

A package of tuna will liven up and add protein to pasta salads.  This Campanelle Pasta Salad is delicious and is best served warm or at room temperature.

Here are two ways to make tuna cakes (or tuna patties, or tuna fritters…  What do you call them?)  These Tuna Cornbread Cakes are going on my menu plan for next week!  They look fairly simple to make, but be aware that the cornbread mix needs to be prepared and baked, then crumbled into the tuna mixture, so include the baking time in your dinner prep plans.  These Tuna Fritters from The Healthy Chef are even easier with just three ingredients!
