Honey Harvest Demonstration at Bear Creek Nature Center

Want to see how beekeepers harvest honey?  You can watch a demonstration this Saturday from 9 AM to 12 PM as beekeepers harvest the honey from the hive at Bear Creek Nature Center!  They’ll also have crafts to do, samples of honey, and local honey available for purchase; and it all takes place from 9-12 on September 8th at the nature center (245 Bear Creek Road).  You can read about our visit to Bear Creek Nature Center here – we loved this place!

I had to chuckle when I got the email about this event last week.  The subject line was “Pooh Bear isn’t the only one digging into the honey jar!” which was quite comical considering that when we went to hike at Bear Creek Nature Center a couple of weeks ago, we were greeted by this:

Needless to say, we decided not to hike that day (and it was a Monday so the nature center itself was closed).  They don’t call it Bear Creek for nothing!  (Don’t worry, we didn’t get too close – this picture is zoomed in quite a bit, but if you’re familiar with the nature center layout you can see that he was right up by the building.)  I’m grateful that we saw him before we actually got on the trail and since it was our first “real bear” sighting, it was quite an exciting event!

Anyway.  I doubt there will be any bears around during the honey harvest, so don’t let that scare you off. :)
