If you teach phonics-based reading, with very few sight words, you know that it can be difficult to find readers that don’t have a bunch of sight words in them. Here’s sixty that you can download for free! I looked at a few of the first ones, and they seem to be very nice, with “the” being the only sight word in most of them.
Each book focuses on one sound or blend, such as the short a or the blend (or vowel team, as All About Spelling calls it), oo. The readers print two pages on each 8.5×11 page, so you’ll need to cut and staple them together. There are black-and-white illustrations that your kids can color, too.
