A question from Brenda:
We are looking for a great, inexpensive location to host a small reception (about 30 people). We would prefer a location that allows us to bring our own food, or that will cater light appetizers for no more than $10 per person. Right now we have the McAllister House and Cheyenne Mountain State Park on our list, but I am sure there must be some more “hidden gems” in the Springs…historic homes, churches, meeting rooms at one of the city parks, small bakeries or cafes with space for 30, something along those lines. Please let me know if anyone knows of someplace special and cost effective!

A few years back I needed to find a low-cost location for an event and ended up using the Tesla Educational Center on International Circle (east of Memorial park). They were very reasonable and it was a nice facility, but we did have to use their catering and they did not allow alcohol. Still, it was a very reasonable venue. phone 520-2701
Try the Carter Payne (http://www.thecarterpayne.com/) it’s newly-renovated ~ formerly a church. My friend just had her reception there in September and it was very nice!
Wow, that looks really pretty!
Last year I went to a Christmas party at Elks Lodge 309 at 3400 North Nevada Avenue. I didn’t set it up so I don’t know the price, but think it was not too expensive, and was spacious and nice.
We had a very small but quaint wedding in Green Mountain Falls almost 10 years ago and were in the same boat! We found the Marcroft Hall in Chipita Park which is beautiful. We got married under the Gazebo in Green Mountain falls and the hall was just a couple of miles away. Very inexpensive and we brought Sam’s club! It offered everything we needed! http://www.chipitapark.org/marcroft.htm
Brenda,
First of congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! When I got married I was on a very tight budget and I wanted thr full wedding experience or as I called is “Champagne dreams on a beer budget”. My “hidden gem” was Maggiano’s. For $2,500 (which included gratuity) I got a full open bar, champagne toast, four course meal, tables, chairs, linens, all the dishes, glasses, flatware, center pieces, dance floor extra tables and the best part a three tier cake. I had 75 people at my reception(not all adults). If you are okay with a restaurant then I highly HIGHLY recommend Maggiano’s. I got to do all the thing a typical bride would get to do. I got to cake test and food test which was outstanding! I can’t speak highly enough of the place. Every year we go back and have dinner their on our anniversary.
If you know someone who owns a home in Cordera, they have an awesome community center with with kitchen, 2 convention rooms that can merge into one larger one, great views. I believe the owners there get a free reservation to the rooms twice a year. So you could ask a friend to sponsor your event there and use their event time. If you are curious about it, I’d go take a tour as if you are a perspective homeowner. Best wishes.
I attended a wedding at The Lodge at Cathedral Pines this summer. It was a beautiful location and the family brought in all their own food and had a buffet. It was extremely memorable, as everyone in attendance said it was the best wedding food they had ever tasted! Best wishes!

I threw a surprise birthday party for my mom at the Miramont Castle in Manitou Springs. It was fabulous! They have several menus to choose from in varying prices, and the kitchen manager is incredibly accommodating (we had 2 vegan guests – she made them special plates at no extra charge!). The atmosphere is great and guests were welcome to explore the castle at their leisure.
