Wondering who has the best deal on turkey, hams, sweet potatoes, or cranberries this year? We’ve put together a comparison of the prices of common Thanksgiving dinner essentials so you can see who has the best overall deals for what’s on your Thanksgiving shopping list.
Prices from Albertsons, King Soopers, Natural Grocers, Safeway, Sprouts, Target, and Whole Foods are included, and if you share prices that you’ve found at other stores, we’ll update the list with those deals!

Albertson’s in Fort Collins has the Honeysuckle White turkey for 7.99 up to 16 pounds with $25 purchase. You can use the 55 cent coupon doubled to get it for 6.99. Best deal if you can find one close to 16 pounds.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this!!!
This is awesome, and I’m sure it’s a lot of work. You ROCK!
Thank you!!
King Soopers has an ad today (Thurs) in the Denver Post – Turkeys $.49/lb. – Kroger.
Oh, seriously?! Why didn’t they advertise that yesterday?!?! Thanks for the update!
Thank you for putting this together! You are wonderful!
You are welcome, everybody! If you have any prices to add for the above items, feel free to comment with them! I usually try to do Sam’s, Costco, and Walmart, but didn’t have the time to do them myself (at least not yet!) or the budget to pay one of my staff this year. :/
They just marked the $.49 turkey down today. I just got back from Austin Bluffs/Academy and got one of the last ones. 17 lbs for about 8.00. They ordered more and should be in at 7:00 Friday evening. If you try another Kings perhaps call first.
I bought a $3.99 small pumpkin pie at Kings – (I happened to be there and wanted to be done with it) haven’t tried it, but it looks typical store pie. If you want a great pumpkin pie – COSTCO! – My understanding is they make them fresh daily – pretty large and about $5.99. I don’t have a membership there, but went with a friend a few times. Haven’t decided yet if I will sign up. Husband doesn’t like the idea of paying for the membership. Friend says it pays for itself and swears by Costco.
I’ve heard good things about Costco’s pies, too, but wasn’t sure on the price this year. Anyone know for sure what they are running right now?
I bought a pumpkin pie for $5.99 at Costco at the end of October. It was delicious!
Great – sounds like it’s the same price as last year. Thanks, Denise and Kathy!
You can’t beat their pumpkin pie – large and fresh. I tried the apple as well – I think about $ 6.00 – no comparison to the store pies.
Yes the costco pumpkin pies are great! And huge!! Last year they went fast tho the weekend before Thanksgiving
OMG thank you so much. I was just making my list and was wondering where I should go to get the cheapest items. This is a blessing…
You can make your own pies for like 2 bucks for 2 of em if you make your own dough (2 inutes in the food processor literally) and pumpkin filling (about 3 minutes in the food processor)
I make my own. We even grow the pumpkin and mill the flour, and thanks to Carrie I get my sugar cheap and my evaporated milk free…but it’s also nice to know where you can find a nice pie if you don’t bake, or don’t have time. :)
You know…I cook from scratch ALL the time. I make our granola, our yogurt, some of our breads, noodles, I do a lot of canning and freezing from the garden, etc. etc. etc., and I cook most of our meals from scratch. So for Thanksgiving, one of my ‘treats’ is that I use crescent rolls and stove top stuffing. Hubby loves them because that’s what he had growing up, and it makes my day a lot simpler, so it’s win-win! :)
Farm Crest Milk stores are offering half a dozen eggs for 1 penny when you buy any two gallons of milk. Good deal if you’re already in there buying two gallons!!
I don’t do much from scratch – but you are very talented to take the time to do that. I hate to keep bringing up Costco (last time, I hope), but I’m thinking about asking for a membership for Christmas for a year to try it out. My husband/family never know what to get me. I have everything I need to survive including sweats! If I need something I just go get it – but it has to be on sale. I can’t remember when I paid full price for anything. Well, maybe sometimes, if necessary.I have way too much stuff that I don’t use already.
Carrie – maybe start a Christmas wish list? I have no idea.
Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone. I THINK I am done shopping.
Albertsons has Honeysuckle White tukey’s for .49/lb. I was just at the AB Albertsons and they had quite a few but hey were larger ones.
That is amazing! Maybe it pays to be a procrastinator. This is kind of funny. I ran to Kings at about 7:00 am to get the $.49 turkey – no makeup – nothing! Not many left so I grabbed one. Made sure at the checkout that I was only paying $.49/lb. When I got home – no turkey! I called Kings – I left it in the cart, but they found it! lol By the time I got there, no turkeys left, but they had mine in the meat dept. Someone could have had a free turkey -( I would have turned it in, but I think many ppl would have taken it from the cart).
What would you do?
Today’s Pueblo Chieftain’s back page had a full page ad for King Soopers for whole turkeys at $0.49/lb. WOW!!
I believe the $2.29 Gold Medal flour at Safeway would be $1.79 considering the $0.25 coupon should double. Right?
Finally, there were fresh green beans at King Soopers for $0.99/lb. And they looked pretty decent.
May I confess that I’ve been waiting anxiously for this list as I remembered you did one last year that saved me lots of time and money. I now have been watching this site (and directing many, many others to it) for about 1.5 years and cannot tell you enough THANK YOU for all the hard work you put in!!!! I saved $997 (yes, nearly $1,000) this OCTOBER alone from watching this website and one other. If that’s just me, I can only imagine that you are underpaid – you save small fortunes for most readers on a weekly basis!!
An admiring and grateful shopper who also is a “type-A”,
Thanks, AJ – yep, your price on Gold Medal at Safeway was right, not sure what I was thinking! Updated that and the turkeys!
That makes me so happy to hear that you anticipated this list so much! :)
When I read (here) about the .49 a pound turkey, I did some major ‘freezer tetris’ to make room for one. I didn’t call my hubby until I was sure I could make a space for one (our freezer is pretty full, due to those King Sooper deals a few weeks back), but I did. He went to the one that’s on his way home (south academy) and got one that just fit the space I made. When I take the turkey out to thaw, I hope to get one more, to help get us through the year. :)
Has anyone tried the turkeys at King Soopers @ .49/lb? I realize that Thanksgiving is next week… My concern is this. (At the risk of raining on anyone’s parade, sorry!) When King’s had the chicken quarters at .69/lb i STOCKED up. Bad idea, hind sight. They taste terrible. I even made fried chicken to mask the flavor, but the texture is just rubbery. I have two packs left and not sure what to do… I’d love to get a few turkeys in my freezer (I’ve been saving room.) and the price is GREAT, but I’m a little afraid… I’d love to hear if you have tried it yet… Thanks! (I shop at KS in Pueblo, perhaps that is why? :) )
Walmart has the Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce for $1.18/14oz.
Thank you!
Just got back from Albertons on Austin Bluffs and Dublin. Honeysuckle White Turkeys are 0.49lb plus a free 2L of soda!
They had tons.
It’s the turkey wars! :) Wonder if they are intentionally trying to top King Soopers?
Albertson’s weekly ad (11/14) did state on the front page (Pueblo) that they would match any advertised prices for turkeys and ham. I do like Albertson’s meat the best!
I didn’t see the ad, but I just went in and asked them about it, and they said that they would adjust it at the register to price match King Soopers.
I have been wondering the same thing about the Kroger turkeys (taste vs value). My husband swears he only likes Butterball but with trying to save some money, I’m willing to try a Kroger brand turkey. His philosophy is we only have one Thanksgiving a year and he wants his Butterball LOL If the turkey is seasoned and prepared properly, does the brand make much of a difference?
Kroger turkeys are back up to .69 a pound in the ad (Sunday’s Gazette). Does anyone know if they are back up to .69 a pound in store?
I was at the Fillmore location yesterday (Sunday) and they still had a bunch for .49/lb.
The Stetson Hill one had them at 49cents last night at 8:30 pm. The biggest ones they had were 15lbs though.
Yesterday’s papers were confusing, as one page had King Soopers turkey at $0.69/lb & another page in the same paper had them listed at &0.49/lb! I’m guessing they’ll stick at $0.49/lb through Thanksgiving.
Thank you so much for making this list every year. It really helps with my “Oh no, Thanksgiving is in two days!” shopping list.
