Sprouts will definitely be seeing me this week – I’m so excited that their 72-hour sale this weekend includes dried apricots for $1.99/lb and boneless, skinless chicken thighs for $1.59/lb! I just recently adapted a Tandoori Chicken recipe to use boneless, skinless thighs (because it’s kind of a pain to eat with bones in it, especially with little kids!) so I will be stocking up. I like to use thighs to make chicken nuggets, too – the dark meat is so tender and juicy!
They also have good deals on steaks and pineapples, and are having their Gluten-Free Jubilee with 25% off gluten-free products.
If you are in the Grand Junction area, their new store opens there on Wednesday the 16th! Be sure to look at the ad for your particular store, as they are running grand opening specials good at that store only. They may also be running special deals at the new Longmont and Boulder Sprouts stores.
These deals are valid January 16 through January 23, 2013.

I’m going too! I usually pick one place per week. Wednesday will be IT – with the double Wed stuff.
I think I might try the stuffed chicken – 2.99/lb. (last wk ad)
Hooray for a sale on Gluten-free products! Recently found out my daughter is allergic to wheat, so we’ve been looking for Gluten-free products to replace what she normally eats that has wheat in it.
Great price for the Daisy Cottage cheese. We’re very careful about what goes in to us! If you haven’t looked at cottage cheese ingredients lately – do so. Wow, the ingredient list goes on forever! Daisy’s doesn’t, so I’ll be happily stocking up!
Interesting – we buy a fair amount of cottage cheese for cottage cheese patties and cottage cheese muffins but that’s one thing that I haven’t looked at the ingredients lately. I’ll have to check it out next time – thanks!
I was going to go to Sprouts today to take advantage of double ad Wednesday, but the chicken thighs and pineapples are calling to me! Decisions, decisions! Plus chocolate almonds sound really yummy. Those just might get me to go this weekend.
I just got back from Sprouts! I usually shop only once/wk/pick a store. But Albertsons and Fri-Sun Sprouts are also calling my name. I was at Sprouts for about 1-1/2 hrs with a short list. lol $77.00 later I got out of there. Can’t beat the chicken breast price at Alb. Great on the grill and stir fry with vegs (Sprouts) and rice (rice cooker at Wallys). Also bought stuffed chicken (meat deli) to try.
I price matched what I could from double ad wednesday at WM, so that I can make Friday my town day (we are out east) and get some chicken thighs. Please save some for me, K? Country people gotta eat too! ;)
Laura, thanks so much for mentioning price matching! I hadn’t even thought of that, nd Walmart is way closer to me than Sprouts.
You’re welcome, Sarah….it’s the same for me! I only come to town once a week at the most, so I have to plan accordingly! :)
I’ve tried price matching produce at different Walmarts and had mixed results. One cashier (in Denver) told me she couldn’t weigh my grapes, so she pulled a number out of thin air and I was over charged for them (I got that fixed at Customer Service) and another one (Powers location) charged me $.39 each for bananas vs per pound and said that’s how they do it………..I’ve given up on price matching produce there.
At the Falcon Walmart, they are great about price matching – they are trained properly apparently, because I’ve price matched meats, produce, everything. :)
I should also say that I live near this location, so it’s simply the one we go to. I have had experiences with some cashiers that seem either reluctant or don’t know how to do things like price matching produce…so there are some cashiers I’ll avoid if I have a bunch of price matching and coupons and stuff. That said, there are quite a few that are just great. :)
The ‘by the each’ vs. ‘by the pound’ thing does exclude some items, but for me and my situation, I just do what I can and let go of the rest, because I simply can’t be driving to down every time there’s a good deal. It’s not a good deal if it takes a couple hours of my day and a gallon of gas, you know? God manages to bless us plenty within our situation. :)
I have price matched at the Walmart on Razorback several times, and I price matched at the one on Woodmen yesterday and haven’t had any problems. The biggest problem I have had is just that it took a long time for them to figure out how to do it. But I have only ever tried to price match 1-2 things at a time.
Produce is tricky because Walmart sells so many things by the “each” rather than by the pound, like other stores. Last time I was there (a long time ago, I admit), I couldn’t pricematch broccoli because they sold it shrink-wrapped for a set price.
I was just at Sprouts and they were restocking the pineapples with Del Monte Hold ones – a big plus in my book! They were out of the Daisy cottage cheese but had the chicken in stock (running low in the display but they may have more in the back) and apricots were in stock – look for them in a big bin where the oats and some nuts are.
