Last Chance To Get “From Garbage to Gourmet” for 50% Off!

Today (Thursday) is the last day to get my new ebook, From Garbage to Gourmet, for 50% off! It’s just $4.99 through tonight and then it goes up to a special introductory price of $6.99 for the rest of the month of March. So, since I want you to buy the book and get a good deal, you should buy it now. :)

Here’s a couple of the nice things that people have been saying about this book:

Amazon review: “I’m an experienced cook who thought she knew all about not wasting bits and pieces of food. This book will take me to a whole new level of conserving waste–and ending up with a quality product. While I might use Saigon cinnamon sticks in lieu of red hots in Poor Man’s Cider (for flavor–obviously my substitution doesn’t qualify as inexpensive), on the whole the recipes look delicious.”

From Janel at Frugal and Focused: “As someone who tries to live frugally, I actually do try to minimize our family’s wastefulness. However, after reading From Garbage to Gourmet by Carrie Isaac, I can clearly do better much better.”

From Lacy at Laughing Lemon Pie: “I’ve already gotten to see an advanced copy, and this book is really, really useful. I can’t wait to put it to use in my own kitchen! Carrie is the grocery store expert who taught me the importance of keeping a price book (which I write about in my own ebook). She’s kind of a grocery store goddess, and definitely a first-class expert when it comes to saving money at the grocery store (without going nutso bananas!). …She’s revolutionizing eating on a budget for me—again!”

Honestly, food waste wasn’t something I ever thought about until a year or two ago. Even though I’ve been a frugal shopper for a long time, if I were to be honest, I would definitely have to admit that I was definitely one of the average American families that throws away $25 out of every $100 they spend on food. That is a crazy big number, and you might be saying, “no way, I do not throw away that much food” but think about it…

  • What goes down the garbage disposal after a meal
  • Perfectly edible, yet “not normal” parts of the food like potato peels and broccoli stalks
  • Those beef bones and stew meat you get with your side of beef
  • Wilted herbs
  • Undesired leftovers
  • The remains of a can of tomato paste that got moldy
  • Freezer-burned who-knows-what (usually gets thrown away in a big clean out a couple of times a year – this goes into your weekly average)
  • Shrimp and other seafood shells
  • Bread heels
  • Bits of cooked rice and pasta
  • Chicken bones
  • That apple that bounced around in your van for a few weeks
  • Food that gets tossed in the compost bin or given to the livestock (a legitimate thing to do, but can become a feel-good excuse for not actually dealing with waste)

Yeah. See how much food we waste that we don’t even think about?

So, anyway – when I started thinking about food waste, I (a) realized that I wasted a lot more than I thought and (b) that I could actually have a lot of fun getting creative with stuff I used to throw away. (Except the moldy stuff – but that I just make sure to deal with before it gets moldy.) Preventing food waste didn’t have to mean throwing a week’s worth of leftovers together and calling it a casserole – I figured out how to make Asian Broccoli Slaw with broccoli stalks, a delicious chocolate cake with leftover oatmeal, a really really good beef stock with those prone-to-freezer-burned bones, and a lot more.

It’s all in the book! Get it today while it’s 50% off! :)
