Best Deal on Prescriptions? Doctor Says Costco (No Membership Required!)

When I and one of my kids was afflicted with strep throat last week, we had to get a rare-for-us prescription for antibiotics.  The doctor noticed that we were paying out-of-pocket and recommended Costco as the cheapest place to get most prescriptions, unless it’s one of the $4 ones that Walmart or King Soopers has.  (Walgreens is astronomically higher, according to the doc!)

I haven’t regularly filled prescriptions so I have no idea how it actually compares, but I took the doctor’s word for it and got our prescriptions filled at Costco.  You don’t have to have a membership – just tell them you need to go to the pharmacy and they’ll let you in without a membership card.

Just thought I’d pass it along in case any of you are looking for the best prices on prescriptions and haven’t checked there yet!

  1. off topic but just noticed Sinton gallon milk at Costco for $1.99 on milk tracker. Does anyone know if you have to buy more than 1 gallon and do they carry 1% or 2%?

  2. They come in two gallon boxes usually, skim, 1%, 2% or whole. The price was still at $2.70ish a gallon last week, so I hope it really has gone down!

  3. I am out of pocket also, and Walgreens was SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper for my prescriptions…I guess it depends on what you are getting.

  4. is a comparison shopping site that will tell you the price of your prescription at numerous pharmacies. if you have to pay out of pocket, it can be helpful.
