Safeway Weekly (3/26-4/1): Palmolive Dish Detergent for $0.99 + More

Hmm. Well, there’s not a lot of great deals at Safeway this week, but you can get a London Broil for $2.99/lb and Palmolive dish soap for $0.99 after coupon. It seems like it’s been a long time since there were more than one or two items that were good deals at Safeway – I haven’t been in a Safeway store in forever! Is it just me?

These deals are valid March 26-April 1, 2014.

  1. no its not just you. safeway is horrible.

I also haven’t been in a long while! I was hitting deals there a lot this early fall, but lately no reason to go. I miss their 20 off 75 coupons and gas deals.

    • It has been a looooong time since they did a $20 off $75 coupon – I’d forgotten about those! With the way their deals have been lately, it would be hard to get to $75 and still make it a good deal even after $20 off!

  3. You do know Safeway has been sold????? They are being bought out by the same company that owns Albertsons. Will be interesting to see what happens. King Soopers was trying to do a buyout with Safeway, but govt said it would constitute a monopoly and blocked that. Also, they wanted to pick and choose which stores they bought.

    • Yes, I did see that – not sure what will come of combining the two overpriced chains! :)

      • Their takeover of Albertsons resulted in closure of many of the less productive Albertsons stores. I expect the same with Safeway. Wish I likes King Soopers more than I do, as it looks like they will dominate.

    • How is it the KS buying it a monopoly, but Albertsons buying it isn’t?

  4. How does the Palmolive pricing work? I have found the ecoupon from Safeway for $1.99, but how do you get down to .99 cents from there?

    • You would need to use the $0.50/1 Palmolive coupon from the March 23rd Smartsource insert, which will double and take $1.00 off, making it $0.99 after the paper manufacturer’s coupon and the Safeway store ecoupon.

      • Thanks for that. Is the smart source coupon available online? I can’t seem to find it on the smart website.

        • Not usually – only a very small number of coupons are available on their website. They put out a lot more in their inserts in the Sunday paper. If you don’t already know, the Denver Post has the most number of coupons in Colorado so it’s the best one to subscribe to for the coupons.

  5. I go in once in a while…for the cheap yogurt last week ( btw, got a $1.00 off next purchase when I bought 6 Greek yoplait). and I love the dairy markdown items I usually find. They have had a few $5 off $20 purchase coupons on just4u in the past few months. They hose you on gas points now…u can’t pay with credit card to get your discount. It costs 10 cents more per gallon if you pay with credit card. I loaded a Safeway gift card that donates to my daughters band program to get a small rebate and and the gas discount. Not my fave though…I still have to be fastidious about what should be lower price on just4u…lots of sidelines to customer service when the computer isn’t right.

    • I didn’t realize you couldn’t pay with a credit card for gas and still get the points – that’s crazy! I’ve never been a huge fan of their gas points program, but that’s mostly because there are so few Safeway gas stations in the Springs and I’m never regularly at any of them.

If anyone has a smartphone – The Safeway app was updated a few days ago and includes some pretty cool capabilties. My fav is the new barcode scanner that will allow you to scan an item and see if Safeway has any J4U coupon center or personalized coupons available to load for the product.

I’m an avid Safeway shopper and wasn’t too happy when I heard Albertsons bought Safeway. Although Albertsons does have good deals at times, they just aren’t consistent. King Soopers is usually way too packed with people for my taste so I only go there when I *have* to. Oh well, guess time will tell what happens with the Albertsons/Safeway deal.

I went to Safeway last week for the first time in months. I can’t remember what was on sale that got me there, but my husband really likes their store brand English muffins, so I stock up and freeze them when I go. I had a $5/$20 ecoupon, so after getting everything else, I bought enough English muffins to get me over $20. It ended up being a pretty good deal.

I used to go regularly when they would put their 2 lb. blocks of cheese on sale, but those have been few and far between lately.
