When my friend Crystal, the original Money Saving Mom, asked if I wanted to do a giveaway of five copies of her new book, The Money Saving Mom’s Budget, I didn’t think about it very long – I said yes, because I knew you guys would love to win it!

The Money Saving Mom’s Budget is officially being released on Tuesday, but it’s already hit the bestseller list on Amazon for a couple of days, and that was just for pre-orders! Crystal sent me a preview of the book, and here’s what I enjoyed about a couple of the chapters:

As someone who is not a goal-setter, I found the first chapter though-provoking and challenging. I’ve seen Crystal set and reach many, many goals, and there’s no better inspiration for setting and working towards goals. I personally prefer to jump right in to something and start doing, rather taking the time to set goals – I think it’s how I’m wired, but this chapter got me thinking about whether or not I could accomplish more by writing down goals.

The second chapter on cutting clutter was fantastic, even if it’s not what you’d expect from a personal finance book. I strongly believe that every bit of “stuff” in your home and life takes time to manage – even if it’s just sitting in a box in your basement. If you’re constantly managing “stuff”, you will have less time and energy to accomplish the things that you really want to do. This was a great chapter on something you don’t normally hear in regards to money.

Now, I have to admit that I would have preferred the book either be all philosophy or all practical advice. The second half has some great information on using coupons, saving on your grocery bill, and cutting costs overall, but I personally would rather have read more general finance tips rather than how to use coupons. For a lot of people, though, it’s a perfect mix!

Real Deals keeps their cost down by only being open two days a week, so plan ahead: you’ll want to stop by on a Thursday or Saturday to shop around!  And, a little bird told me you will really want to stop in there this Thursday or Friday with something special we’re going to announce on Wednesday.
