Couponing FAQ: printing coupons on Windows 7

by Carrie Isaac on December 3, 2009

coupon printing not supported on windows 7Karla emailed to ask this question:

How do you fix printer issues when using Windows 7?  I can’t print coupons for Target or e-centives.  I keep getting an error message about the coupon activator not being supported.  Anywhere I can download an update coupon activator for Windows 7?

Unfortunately, I’m not sure anyone can help here.  Here’s what e-centives says:

Note: e-Centives does not support Internet Explorer on a Mac. If you are using a Mac, please use Safari or Firefox to print coupons. e-Centives does not support Chrome for any platform, or any browser on Windows 7 at this time.

Here’s what e-centives does support:

- Windows 2000, ME, XP and Vista when used with any of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 6.x and 7.x, or Firefox 2.x and 3.x.
- Mac OS 10 and above when used with any of the following browsers: Safari 2.x and 3.x, and Firefox 2. x and 3.x.
- The Coupon Print Activator software is updated from time to time to meet newer versions and/or types of popular browsers, so please check back to see if support for your operating system and/or browser has been added.
- Please note that in general “Beta” operating systems and/or browsers may not be supported. Coupon printing is not supported under Linux, Unix or Web TV platforms.

So, unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that there’s a way to print coupons from e-centives from Windows 7. My only advice would then be to get a Mac – I’ll let you know if there are any good coupons out there. ;)

Any other questions or tips about printing coupons, either on Windows or Mac?  Here’s a list of common printable coupon problems and the solutions.  If you’ve got a question that’s not answered there, leave a comment and I’ll see if I can find an answer!

I know it can be a pain to get out, however, East library allows you to print 10 pages free per day. Save on ink & paper & you don’t have to deal with Windows 7?

Without having to buy a new machine (isn’t saving money the point of all this?), if your Windows 7 machine can handle it, you can run a virtual Windows XP session that should let you work around the Windows 7 issue.

See here:

Also, the virtual XP mode is a great way to continue using some of your older programs that have not yet been updated to work with Windows 7.

FINALLY someone is talking about this! I’ve been suffering through this for weeks now, it’s enough to make a couponer quite depressed :P Thanks for the info Charles I’ll be looking into doing that ASAHP. I hope it works, it’s no fun having a TON of coupons I can’t access.

Thanks Charles. I haven’t had any issues with Windows 7 (I love it!), but perhaps I haven’t tried to print from those sites. I’m trying to think if I’ve printed from Target in the last month and I can’t remember. I’ll save this info for when I do.

If you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, there is a Windows XP mode that you could use to run Internet Explorer I believe. I believe it only requires two downloads that can be found on the microsoft website. I’ll be upgrading to 7 soon so I have been looking into this. I will have the Professional Version.

I am using Win7 Ultimate, and I tried XP Mode, but it won’t install the plugin:

You are trying to print to a device that is not valid for printing coupons. Please check your printer setting to make sure your default printer is a regular printer and has paper. If you have a multi-function printer (fax, copy, print), please make sure that “Printer” is set as the default function on your computer.

You can download Maxathon 2 and print all your ecentives coupons from there. :) Works great for me!

Windows 7 users should try lowering the User Account Control in Windows 7 (Vista too). Go to Control Panel, User Accounts, User Accounts (or Family User Accounts). Change User Account Control setting. Windows 7 users drag the bar to the bottom, never notify. Reboot your PC and try printing now. It’s likely Windows security that is blocking your coupon printer. If you have Zone Alarm, make sure you’ve “allowed” the coupon printer under Program Control. Under Access, check “trusted and Internet.” I do techsupport at work. :)
