Can you help Crystal find a real Greek salad? She says “I would love to find a real Greek salad with the potato salad under it. We used to get the best in Florida from a Greek area of town, but I can’t find one here and am craving it.”
And Jennifer wants to know where she can find cinnamon chips (like chocolate chips, only cinnamon) here in Colorado Springs.
Finally, Sarah wants to know where she can find moving boxes. I already suggested Craigslist and Freecycle, but if you’ve got other ideas, please let us know!

The best place to get boxes for moving…the grocery store. Go to King Soopers around 4:30/5am and ask the guys stocking the shelves. They will give you more free boxes than you know what to do with!
I agree with the previous poster (who has a beautiful name, by the way! :-]). The grocery store is the best place – their egg boxes are the perfect size, super sturdy and even have hand holes. If you ask, they will sometimes save them for you. And I second the request for cinnamon chips – they are sooooo good and adding them to “fall” recipes (like pumpkin bread and gingersnaps) makes such a difference – but I can’t find them anywhere!
Anyone know where the best place is to buy Halloween candy?
Liquor stores also usually have really good boxes for moving, very sturdy especially for books.
I have moving boxes in my basement. I got quite a few of them from the grocery stores and I have a few larger ones. She can contact me if she wants to.
Re: Greek salad – I’m not exactly sure what a “real” Greek salad is because I’ve never had the kind Crystal described, but my guess is her best bet would be to try Jake and Telly’s in Old Colorado City. It’s authentic as far as I can tell! We ate there once (used a Restaurant.com gift certif) and it was really good.
Here’s their website: http://www.greekdining.com/
I have found some of the best boxes are from Starbucks. They are sturdy, and one can get them in all sizes. I call ahead and they will save them for me to pick up. Find out when the store closest to you gets their deliveries and call first thing in the morning.
The only place I have ever seen cinnamon chips is on line at Prepared Pantry. They have all sorts of yummy things. Warning they are a little expensive. We love the marion blackberry and the peach orchard syrup from there.
I almost always just go behind big store buildings and can find boxes. Of course if you go just after the recycle trucks have been there you will have little luck, but most have designated cardboard trash cans these days so it makes it easy (and CLEAN!) to find boxes. Some of my fav places are Sears, Petsmart, Michaels, and even Cold Stone (can you tell I go through the back of the Southgate stores). You might have to tape them back together if they’ve been flattened, but I’ve always found all the sizes I need for free.
I have never had anyone care that I was back there.

I’m not sure whether to post this here or in the thread about cherry chips but I just saw them at Wal-Mart today.
For moving boxes, I’d suggest calling the maintenance department of a college/university. They get boxes from the offices, cafeteria, library, etc, so they have a wide variety of sizes and types. Some of the bigger churches might also be a good source. Just contact the office to get a message to the janitor.
