Save the date for spring consignment sales!

by Carrie Isaac on March 1, 2010

The Mothers of Multiples Society will be having their next consignment sale on Saturday, March 13th from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Douglas County Events Center in Castle Rock.

And, the next Just Between Friends consignment sale will be April 15-17th in the Phil Long Expo Center here in the Springs.

What’s your favorite local consignment sale? Any others coming up in the next month or two that we should know about?

I LOVE the MOMS sale in Castle Rock — partially because I’m a mom of multiples myself, but you don’t have to be one to enjoy it. If you plan to go, and you really want first choice of the stuff, get there at least an hour early, if not more. Two years ago, we got there right on time, and there were probably 400 people in front of us in line. :)

Does anyone know when the consignment sale is here in the Springs? It was at the church on Union and Austin Bluffs last year and I think it was in April/May. I absolutely loved that sale and got a ton of clothes for my little guy. Anyone have any ideas? Should I wait for that one, or go to the one in Castle Rock in March??

I don’t know when it is this year, but last year it was the first weekend of June. I remember because I wanted to go, but I had given birth on Thursday! :) Since I haven’t been, I can’t compare the two sales, though.

Hi,
Your talking about the Munchkin Market. Coming up, it will be April 23 & 24. It is typically every April and October. It’s always held at Fellowship Bible Church. I think this year I’m going to be a consignor and make a little extra spending cash.

Heather, (or anyone else that knows)…what are the prices and/or condition of the stuff in the MOMS sale in Castle Rock? I really want to go this year.

This is from their website: “Almost 200 members of MOMS fill a 29,000 square-foot space with their gently-used children’s equipment, toys, clothes, furniture, books, strollers, maternity wear and much more. Savings are 50-90% off retail prices.” I’ve always been impressed by quality (they guarantee that toys, etc. will work), and I would say the prices are not rock-bottom, but definitely comparable to a thrift store, and WAY better than buying new!

I went the the Just Between Friends that was here last fall and I loved it. My girls really made out expecially on the Jeans (boys are just to rough on their jean so my son was out of luck). Name brand stuff for half the price, great condition. I really inspected the items. I do have to say though that some of the stuff was priced high (people get to price their own items) so, I really paid attention to the lables and compared to what I could buy it for new. Just a little tid bit of my two cents.

I do plan on going to the JBF in April and going on Friday the day it is open.

I do JBF and the MOM’s sale in Douglas County. With the MOM’s sale going an hour early isn’t nearly soon enough. People start lining up between 5-6am for it. If you want equipment, wagons, etc. you need to get there super early as that stuff goes fast and first. With all these sales remember consigners always get to shop first and early. If you’ve never been before bring a laundry basket with a rope or belt attached, a wagon, or a cart with wheels. Whatever you do bring something to pull behind you! Also plan on being in line for a LONG time. I know the JBF sale has a cash only line which is much quicker but I don’t remember if MOMS does or not.

Oh, to answer the above posters question, the MOMS sale prices are like JBF’s. Both sales have seller/consigner set policies so they vary a ton. For example I got a huge tonka mixer truck last year that was brand new for $4.50 there was another one right next to it, exactly the same but used a bit for $40. Be smart when looking for deals.

A couple other tips…every year at MOMS I have found expired car seats. They are supposed to screen for them but don’t do a good job at it. ALWAYS check the manufacture date if shopping for a seat and bring it to someones attention if you see an expired seat. Same case for baby gear, at MOMS a couple years ago there were tons (like at least 5) recalled baby bjorns. Lastly, if you see something you even “think” you want, toss it in your basket because it will be gone when you go back to get it later. I’ve learned this the hard way! You’ll see tons of moms sitting on the “sidelines” going through their stashes before getting in line they may look silly but they’re smart!
