Reader Request: where to donate formula?

by Carrie Isaac on July 27, 2010

Many of you haved emailed me to ask where to donate the formula samples you receive in the mail and don’t need.  I haven’t a clue which shelters and food banks accept donations of formula, and wanted to ask you guys: where in Colorado Springs can you drop off cans of unused baby formula?

I’m certainly a big breastfeeding advocate (not much else that’s more cheap and more natural!), but I know that for various reasons formula is sometimes needed.  Your input on places to donate would be much appreciated – please comment!

I have donated before to Care and Share with formula, but I also see requests sometimes on craigslist for it as well.

I have dropped mine off at the Marian House or Catholic Charities many times.

Believe it or not, the people on the Pine Ridge indian reservation have it worse off then people in Haiti – I donate EVERYTHING I can to One Nation Walking Together off Commerce, near Nevada and Fillmore.
They take semi-loads of food, medication, beds, and clothing up there whenever they have a full load.
They are on Facebook too.

I know when I received the zoo member newsletter – they often requested formula.

The Crisis Pregnancy center near The Citadel needs formula to give to the mom’s/babies they serve. Here’s a link to their website which lists their hours and location. http://www.elifenetwork.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=2

I second the crisis pregnancy center (Life Network). Any time I can get cheap formula, diapers, etc. I give it to them.

I also take mine to the pregnancy center on Galley. Even the samples, blankets, baby related items. They’re always grateful and you can get a tax receipt as well.

God’s Pantry on Main in Fountain takes formula. They do a LOT of good locally (ex: free clothes, up to 30 per person/month). They are extremely helpful to the community, we like to donate things there.

Life Network had 2 Crisis Pregnancy center locations – either on Galley near the Citadel Mall or on Colorado Blvd in Old Colorado City

Hi Carrie,
I’m a big advocate for Life Network and they are always accepting unopened baby formula! It goes to a great service where they counsel many single moms and help out parents when they are going through financial hardships with baby food and formula. There is one located on Galley next to Applebees just west of Academy Blvd. and the second is located off of Colorado Avenue just west of 13th.

I think Northern Churches Care does (located in United Methodist church on Austin Bluffs, just east of Academy).
