Sales at Macy's?

Published January 31, 2009 by Carrie in Expired

macys
Blog reader Cindy wants to know about the store closing sales at Macy’s:

Has anyone been to Macy’s at Citadel lately? Is there anything worth the trip down there?  Thanks!

I thought I’d try to be helpful, so I tried to call the store to find out if they know what date they’ll be closing, and found out the store’s not accepting direct phone calls because they’re closing up shop. A recorded message said merchandise is discounted 30-60% off. Anybody know what kind of stock they have left?

"Love Your Heart" coupon booklet at Safeway

Published January 31, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

“Love Your Heart” coupon booklets are available at displays near the Safeway pharmacy!  It’s full of Safeway store coupons for brands like Barilla Plus, Healthy Choice, Special K, Star Kist, Fresh Express, Diet Coke, and more.  The best part is that these are store coupons so you should be able to use them along with manufacturer’s coupons for the same product.  (The coupons do state “one coupon per household per transaction”, which means that you can only use one of those coupons for, say, Diet Coke, per transaction even if you buy multiple cases in one transaction.)

Free day at Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Published January 30, 2009 by Carrie in Expired

denver-museum-of-nature-and-science

I usually just stick to posting about deals available in Colorado Springs, but I thought some of you would be interested in knowing that the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is having a free day this coming Monday, February 2nd.  More info here.  I’ll say now that as addicted as I am to anything free, I don’t go to free admission events like this because I’ve learned I’d rather pay a few bucks and have way fewer people! :)  But, maybe this one won’t be too crowded since it’s during the week.

Walgreen's Rebates Tip

Published January 30, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

A new reader, Todd, emailed me with a tip on Walgreens rebates:

A few days before each month just go to Walgreens.com and download the current rebate catalog as a PDF. Then just change the rebate period to the next number in the web address.

Here is the link for February that starts Feb. 1st…enjoy!

Walgreens is a GREAT store for bargain hunters – you can get much of your health and beauty items for free or cheap there.  Because most of their deals are nationwide, I’ve decided not to cover those deals on this blog since there’s already lots of other people doing it!  If you want to learn how to get the best deals from Walgreens, I’d recommend reading Money Saving Mom’s Walgreens 101 and checking the main Money Saving Mom website on the weekends when she posts a wrap-up of all the Walgreens deals for the week.

Walgreens periodically has great items on clearance, so if you ever spot any of those deals in Colorado Springs, let me know and I’ll post it!

Safeway deals: January 28-February 3

Published January 29, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

safeway

Some good buys at Safeway this week:

Rancher’s Reserve Beef Loin New York Strip Steak $4.97/lb – I’m not an expert in cuts of meat, but I think this is a good cut and anything under five bucks a pound is a great price.  I’ll have mine medium-rare.

Pork Shoulder Blade Roast $.97/lb – Another good price for meat.

Pork Shoulder Country Style Ribs $1.49/lb – Not the lowest I’ve seen (Albertsons will have them on sale for $.99/lb frequently), but another decent option for this week’s menu!

Eating Right Lunchmeat $2 – I’ve heard there are coupons at some Safeway stores for $1 off any Eating Right product, so if you can get ahold of some of those coupons you could buy this for $1.

Hillshire Farms Lil Smokies $2.50 – Better deal at King Soopers this week.

BallPark Meat Franks $2.50 – Use $1/2 to get for $2 each when you buy two. You should be able to get these cheaper during summer BBQ sales.  **Same deal at King Soopers this week***

Blueberries (6 oz) or Blackberries (5.6 oz) $.88 – I told you a couple of weeks ago that a dollar was a great price, so obviously this is even better!

Baby Peeled Carrots (2 lbs) $1.88 – I don’t buy these too often, but usually shoot for less than $1/lb so to me this is a good deal.

Fresh Large Limes $.25 each – Great price, might even beat some ethnic markets’ prices!

Eggo Frozen Breakfast $2 – Use $.75/1 coupon to get these for $1.  I’m holding out for a better sale, would like to pay about $.50 or less.

Kellogg’s Corn Flakes $1.88 – Wah, all my good Kellogg’s coupons just expired!  You can use $1.50/2 coupon and get two for $1.13 each, but I will VERY rarely pay more than $.50-.75 for cereal so I’m passing on this deal.

Campbell’s Chunky Soup $.99 – You can use a coupon for $.50/4 to get these for $.74 each, or if the Fully Loaded variety is included, use $.50/2 to get them for $.50 each.  I don’t follow canned soup prices much, but it appears that this would be about 75-84% off of Safeway’s regular price so it’s probably a great deal.

……………………………..

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday ONLY

……………………………..

Johnsonville Brats $2.50 – Use $1/2 coupon to get for $2 each when you buy two.

Large Haas Avocadoes $.88 – Best advertised price this week, probably the only place to get them cheaper is an ethnic market.  OK, I take that back, WalMart could have a better price, haven’t checked.

California Pizza Kitchen Pizza $3.99 – Use $.75/1 coupon to get this for $2.99

12-Pack Coca Cola, Pepsi, or 7UP 4/$7.99 with in-ad coupon

Whew.  I’m about done looking at grocery ads for this week!  Happy shopping!

Albertsons deals: January 28-February 3

Published January 29, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

albertsons

Here’s a few deals I see at Albertsons this week. Don’t forget they’re doubling coupons up to $.50, tripling coupons up to $.33, and quadrupling up to $.25!

Bone-In Pork Spare Ribs Buy 1 Get 2 Free with in-ad coupon – I don’t know what’s rock-bottom for spare ribs, but this would be 66% off so I’m guessing it’s a pretty good deal.

Green Seedless Grapes $.97/lb – My target price for grapes.  Anyone besides me always taste-test a grape in the store so you don’t get home and realize you spent three bucks on sour grapes?

Green Bell Peppers $.88 – This about the most I’ll pay for a green pepper (target price for red, orange, and yellow is $1 or less).  Cheapest I’ve seen them in awhile, except at the Mexican markets.

Buy 10 Save $5 Instantly – A similar promotion to the one King Sooper’s is doing right now.  Nothing terribly exciting jumps out at me, except that you could get A1 Steak Sauce for $1 – it’s $2 when you buy 10, and if you have any $1 off coupons you could do that on top of the instant savings.  You do have to buy 10 participating items, but you can mix and match.

Blue Bunny Ice Cream $2.50 – Not that I’d endorse buying ice cream as part of your new year’s diet, but this is a good price. :)

Hebrew National Beef Franks or Knockwurst Buy 1 Get 2 Free with in-ad coupon – Coupon indicates regular price is $5.99, so with the discount you’d pay $5.99 for 3, or two bucks each.  I don’t think there are any manufacturer’s coupons out, but this is a decent “off-season” price for good hotdogs.  [Since the in-ad coupon is a store coupon you can use it in conjunction with a manufacturer’s coupon.]

BallPark Meat Franks $2.50 – Use $1/2 to get for $2 each when you buy two. You should be able to get these cheaper during summer BBQ sales.  **Same deal at King Soopers this week***

Hillshire Farms Lil Smokies $2.50 – Better deal at King Soopers this week.

Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts $1.99/lb – The absolute most I’ll pay for chicken breasts, but I will pay it, if need be.

McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce $1 – You could get this free if you have any $.50/1 coupons, but I think they’ll all expired.

Progresso Vegetable Classics Soup $1 – Use $.50/2 coupon to get some for $.50 each.

Chex Mix $1 – Use $.50/1 coupon to get this FREE.  Save some for me!

M&Ms, Hershey’s Kisses or Minis $1.50 – If Special Dark varieties of Hershey’s Kisses or Minis are included, you can get these for $.50 by using $1/1 coupons.  Also, if Albertson’s is still accepting competitors coupons (they were a couple of months ago), you can use the Target coupon for $1.50/3 to get M&Ms for $1 each.

And finally, buy one 5-box Value Pack of Kraft Mac and Cheese for $2.50 , get a free Tombstone Pizza – great price for the mac and cheese on it’s own, and a free pizza to boot!

Did I miss anything?  Add your deals in the comments!
