Safeway weekly deals: March 11-17

Published March 12, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

safeway
I hope you’re all stocked up on cereal after last week’s Safeway sale!   This week they’re running a similar promotion on juice, and the Buy $25 Save $10 On Your Next Order frozen food promotion continues.

Juice Drinks Deal: Buy 5, save $5.   Participating varieties include Ocean Spray, Ocean Spray Cranergy, Tree Top, Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters, Kool-Aid Jammers, Welch’s, Mott’s, Langer’s, Propel, and Gatorade Powder Drink Mix.   You must buy 5 to receive the discount, but you can mix and match any variety of these to get to the minimum purchase of five.   The prices before coupons below are assuming a purchase of five.

  • Ocean Spray $1.00 – If diet, light, or sugar-free varieties are including, use this printable to get these FREE.   You may have other coupons to use as well, most of the ones that are out are on the diet and light varieties.   $1 would still be a nice price even without a coupon.
  • TreeTop $1.50 – Use the printable coupons from Coupons.com for $1/2 TreeTop, making them $1.00 each.
  • Welch’s $2.00 – If AquaJuice and Light varieties are included, use 75 ¢/1 insert coupons to get for $1.

48 Hour Sale – Saturday and Sunday ONLY:

  • Oscar Meyer Fun Pack Lunchables or Deli Creations $1.50 – Not that great of a price; I’d wait for coupons to come out and you can probably get them cheaper.
  • Fuji Apples 88 ¢/lb
  • Doritoes $1.59
  • Nabisco Ritz Crackers $1.88 – Use $2/2 insert coupon to get for 88 ¢ each!

Meat, Dairy, and Frozen:

  • THURSDAY ONLY:   Signature Cafe 8 piece Fried Chicken $5 – Normally I don’t focus much on deli deals, but this is HOT if you combine this sale with the $2 off coupon from the Safeway site (minimum $10 purchase required).
  • Split Chicken Breast 99 ¢/lb – Not a good price for drumsticks or thighs, but maybe an OK one for bone-in chicken breasts
  • Rancher’s Reserve Boneless Beef Chuck Cross Rib Roast $1.99/lb – Target price for roast.   Can you think of any more adjective to describe a roast?!
  • Pork Shoulder Country Style Ribs Bone-in $1.49/lb – Cheaper at Albertson’s this week ($1/lb there) but still not a bad price.
  • 80% Lean Ground Beef $2.49/lb – More than my target price, but not bad if you need some meal options this week and don’t have anything in the freezer
  • Gorton’s Seafood Selections $2.49 (in-ad coupon) or $2.99 without coupon – I *think* the promo for an instant $5 off when you buy two Gorton’s and two Ore Ida products is still going on.   If so, this is a good deal.   (BTW, Ore Ida products count toward their buy $25 save $10 frozen food promo, Gorton’s do not.)
  • Smithfield Bacon 16 oz $1.99 (in-ad coupon)
  • Medium Raw Shrimp $3.99/lb (in-ad coupon) – This is a two pound bag, so you’ll actually pay $8.98 but it’s still a great price per poud.
  • One Dozen Eggs 97 ¢ (in-ad coupon) – Target price for eggs these days.
  • Lucerne String Cheese $1.99 (in-ad coupon)
  • Lucerne Gallon Milk $2.49 – They’re now touting this as their everyday price, which is nice – same as King Soopers and cheaper than WalMart.

Produce:

  • Green Cabbage 25 ¢/lb
  • Strawberries Buy One Get One Free – Regular price is $3.99 so at BOGO these would meet my target price of $2/lb.
  • 3 lb Bag Apples $1.99

General Grocery and Household:

  • Quaker Chewy Granola Bars 99 ¢ (in-ad coupon) – There’s coupons for $1/2 out there, but you can only buy one with a coupon.   An additional one would be $2.50, making the cost $1.25 each if you buy two to use the coupon.   Way too high for me, I shoot to get them free or around 50 ¢.
  • Kraft Macaroni and Cheese 49 ¢ – Good deal.
  • Peter Pan Peanut Butter 99 ¢ – Print a coupon for 50 ¢/1 to get FREE!

All deals are assuming the store you shop at doubles coupons.   For a partial list of which Safeways do or do not double coupons, please visit the Safeway FAQ page.   This weekly ad review is part of The Grocery Gathering.
