Safeway deals: April 22-28

Published April 22, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

safeway

Whew!   It’s a great week at Safeway; lots of deals to be had.   My mind is spinning with all of them, so if you spotted one I missed, please leave a comment.

Please read the Safeway FAQ (now linked to from the top menu bar) if you have questions about how to shop Safeway sales.   If you’ve read that and still have a question, please leave a comment on this post or on the FAQ and I’ll answer it there.   As always, I’ve written this weekly ad review assuming you shop at a Safeway that doubles coupons.

Meat, Dairy, and Frozen

  • Chicken Drumsticks or Thighs 99 ¢ – I prefer to pay 69-79 ¢/lb, but I might need some this week!
  • Johnsonville Fresh Sausages $3.50 – Use 55 ¢/1 to get for $2.50.   I’m waiting for a better sale.
  • Starbucks Ice Cream – I don’t know the price, but you can use the $1 in-ad coupon (from the Living Well flyer) and the $1 printable to get a total of $2 off!   BTW, thought it’s in the Living Well ad, it doesn’t appear to be included in the promotion.
  • Dreyer’s Ice Cream $2.99 – An decent price for Dreyers, though you can get other brands cheaper.

Thursday through Sunday ONLY

  • Buitoni Pasta $2.50 – An OK price, I’ve seen cheaper.   Wish there were coupons out!

Saturday and Sunday ONLY

  • 80% Lean Ground Beef $1.69/lb – Great price, not going to say it won’t go lower, but I’m going to stock up at this price.
  • Artichokes $1.47 each – Not a good price, these were just on sale for 88 ¢ last week at King Soopers.
  • Safeway Select Artisan French Bread 99 ¢ – Eh, an OK price. Seems like there used to be a printablel for this, but it’s gone now.
  • Wishbone Salad Dressing 99 ¢ (include spritzers) – Use 75 ¢/1 printable to get it FREE!
  • Great American Salmon Filets $3.99/lb (Sold in 2.5 lb bag, so $9.98 per bag) – A good price per pound, but I’m not a fan of frozen salmon when I can get fresh for the same price.
  • Great American Tilapia Fillets $3.33/lb (Sold in 3 lb bag, so $9.99 per bag) – Again, a good price if you’re OK with frozen.

Tuesday ONLY

  • Signature Cafe Roasted Chicken $5 – Use $1/1 printable to get it for $4 (coupon requires $10 minimum purchase).

Living Well Feeling Great Promo: Buy $30 in Participating Products, Get a $10 Coupon (good on your next order)

Here’s how this promotion works.   You need to purchase $30 of participating products, and you’ll receive a catalina coupon at checkout for $10 off your next order.   You can use that $10 coupon to go buy another $30 of participating products and earn another $10 coupon.   Most products are marked in-store with special ads.   You can download the full PDF of participating products from Hot Coupon World.

The sale price is what counts towards the $30.   You can deduct manufacturer’s coupons after the $30 purchase, but NOT Safeway store coupons (that’s what I’m hearing anyway).   If you’re confused, I still have a couple of spots left for the workshop on Saturday, and I’ll explain it more in depth!   Most all the prices for the products that are included in this promo run through May 5th, so you still have a couple of weeks to get in on this deal.

Make sure you look for the square Living Well Feeling Great ad with store coupons.   If you don’t see one, ask at customer service.   That ad is good through May 5th.   BTW, not all the products that have store coupons in that ad are included in the promotion!

  • Capri Sun $1.99 – Use the $1 coupon from last Sunday’s inserts and get it for 99 ¢, or 19 ¢ after promo.   Use the 50 ¢ Safeway coupon for even more savings!
  • Maruchan Instant Noodles $1.25 – Use 35 ¢/1 to get for 55 ¢ or 5 ¢ after promo.
  • Finish/Electrasol Dishwasher Tabs $3.99 – Use $2.50 to get for $1.49, or MAKE 10 ¢ after promo!
  • All Small and Mighty $4.49 – Use 45 ¢/1 to get for $3.59, or $1.79 after promo.   (45 ¢ coupon from Coupons.com or $1 coupon from All website – you may have some higher value printable coupons that were previously available)
  • Bertolli Sauces $2 – Use $1/1 or 75 ¢/1 to get for $1, or   20 ¢ after promo. (The catalina deal has ended.)
  • No Yolks Noodles $1.25 – Use 75 ¢/1 to get for 25 ¢, or MAKE 25 ¢ after promo! (coupon from SmartSource.com)
  • Classico Pasta Sauce $2 plus get 2 free boxes of Safeway pasta when you buy two – $2.40 after promo for all four items after promo.   The two sauces at $2 each should count towards your $30 purchase. (Printable coupon here, not sure how much it’s for.)
  • Skippy Peanut Butter $2.50 – Use 40 ¢/1 to get for $1.70, or 70 ¢ after promo (coupon from RedPlum.com)
  • Lysol Wipes $2 – Use $1/2 to get two for $1.50 each, or 70 ¢ each after promo
  • Sun Chips $3 – Use in-ad coupon for $1.99. Can also use this $1/2 printable coupon to get a further discount, though remember that the in-ad coupon is only going to count for one item.
  • Barilla Plus Pasta $2 – $1.50 after   promo savings.
  • C&W Frozen Vegetables $2 – Use $1/2 printable to get for $1.50 each, or 70 ¢ after promo.
  • Reynold’s 100% Recycled Aluminum Foil – Use the free after rebate form (available for download on Wedesnday ONLY) to get it free after rebate, so a money maker after the promotion savings!   You could also use a $1 coupon.

And FINALLY (man, Safeway has too much stuff going on this week!), a Buy 10 Promotion (buy 10 participating items and they’re $1 each.   You do have to buy 10 to get the $1 each price).

  • Dawn Dish Detergent $1 – Use 25 ¢/1 to get for 50 ¢
  • Suave Hair Care $1 – Use 50 ¢/2 to get for 50 ¢ each
  • Dial Soap $1 – Use 35 ¢/1 to get for 30 ¢ (have seen it cheaper)
  • Renzuit Adjustables $1 – Use 55 ¢/3 to get for 33 ¢ each.

You can view the regular weekly ad online as well. This weekly ad review is part of The Grocery Gathering.
