Safeway weekly deals: May 13-19

Published May 14, 2009 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

safeway

Here’s your guide to shopping at Safeway this week!   I’ve only listed the items that I think are good deals, so be sure to glance over the whole ad online.   Make sure to read the Safeway FAQ to find out which Safeways in Colorado Springs double coupons – the prices after coupons below are written assuming your store does.   They also recently published their policy on internet coupons on their website, so if you’re planning on using printable coupons at Safeway, it’s not a bad idea to print it off and keep it with you just in case there’s a problem. (And if there is, handle it nicely. :)

Weekend Sale: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Only!

  • Doritoes $1.77 each – Great price!
  • Frozen 73% Lean Gtround Beef Patties $1.49/lb (8 lb box) – Not that great of a deal, they’re 25% fat!
  • Signature Cafe Chicken Tenders $3.99/lb – Not sure what regular price is on these. Might be an OK price?
  • Safeway Butter Top Breads 99 ¢ – This is a pretty regular sale price, definitely not worth a special trip.

Meat, Dairy, and Frozen:

  • Sanderson Farms Whole Chicken 79 ¢/lb (Limit 3) – Great price!
  • Rancher’s Reserve Beef Back Ribs 88 ¢/lb (frozen)
  • Rancher’s Reserve Boneless Beef London Broil $1.88/lb
  • 80% Lean Ground Beef $1.99/lb – A good price, though definitely not as low as it will go.   Wouldn’t stock up too much, especially with burger season just around the corner.
  • Primo Taglio Pan Roasted Turkey, Hamm off the Bone, or Provolone Cheese $4.99/lb – Use the $2/1 coupon in the ad to get it for $2.99/lb if you get right at one pound – a great price! Whoops – Jenny just let me kow the $4.99/lb sale price is WITH the in-ad coupon.   An OK deal.
  • California Pizza Kitchen Pizza $4.99 – Use $2/1 printable to get for $2.99, or $1/1 to get for $3.99.   Make sure you buy the right variety as specified on the coupon.
  • Breyer’s Ice Cream $3 – Use 75 ¢/1 to get for $2. Good price, but cheaper at both King Soopers and Safeway this week.

Produce:

  • Blackberries $1.25 (5.6 oz, limit 4) – A great price for Safeway, they were a little cheaper at King Soopers a couple of weeks ago, but this is still a good price.
  • Sweet Seedless Watermelon $3.99 each – It all depends on how big they are and how much you end up paying per pound.
  • Cucumbers 50 ¢
  • Del Monte Fruit Naturals $1 – Use $1/2 printable to get for 50 ¢ each
  • Don’t forget that you can get a free pound of strawberries with the coupon on their website! (Not on the front page, scroll through to find it.)   Requires $10 minimum produce purchase.

Buy 5 Save $5 Sale on Cereals and Fruit Snacks (MUST buy five to get sale price!)

  • Kellogg’s Cornflakes $1 – Use $1/1 or $1.50/1 insert coupons to get it FREE!   I don’t know of any printables that include this variety.
  • Betty Crocker Fruit Gushers $1 – Use 75 ¢/2 to get for 50 ¢ each (printables available by registering at Boxtops4Education.com and BettyCrocker.com).   Good price, wouldn’t pay more, you can sometimes get them for free.
  • Honey Nut Cheerios or Cinnamon Toast Crunch $1.50 – I can’t find any coupons out there!   I would try to pay around 50 ¢ per box for this, no more than 75 ¢, so if you’ve got the coupons to do it, go for it.
  • Kellogg’s Special K $2 – Use $1/1 from Coupons.com and from Kelloggs.com to get for $1 a box.   A great price for Special K!
  • There are “over 50 items” included in this promo, so you’ll probably find some other deals when you go to the store.   I’m going to troll the cereal aisle looking for good deals!   Just remember you should almost never pay more than $1/box for cereal, and you can buy most brands for 75 ¢ or less if you shop strategically!

General Grocery and Household:

  • Pepsi or 7Up 2 Liters 88 ¢ – Great price, I’d stock up!
  • Kraft Velveeta or Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese Dinner $2 – Use $1/1 from Coupons.com to get for $1.
  • Select Items $4.99 each When You Buy 3 – There are several items included in this deal, but only a couple seem to be decent deals (see below).   The Charmin and Quilted Northern toilet paper might be a good deal if you’re brand-loyal to those brands, and the Bounty paper towels are a decent deal.
  • Duracell Batteries 8 pack $4.99 when you buy three. Use three 50 ¢/1 insert coupons as well as the $2 store coupon in the ad, and get three 8 packs of batteries for $3.32 each. Plus, you can add a P&G esaver e-coupon for even more savings.
  • Bounty paper towels $4.99 when you buy three – Use three 25 ¢/1 to get three packages for $4.49 each – an OK deal, not that great IMO!

All right, what did I miss?   Please leave a comment with your finds or questions. This weekly ad review is part of The Grocery Gathering.
