A pretty slow week at Safeway this time around. I’ve spent a little over $100 per week for the last couple of weeks stocking up on deals, so I’m glad for the break – it’s time to use my stockpile!
By the way, I recently had the store at Constitution and Powers tell me they’ll only accept one like internet coupon per transaction, meaning you can’t use two identical $1/1 Kraft Cheese coupons at the same time. I understand their logic, people can easily photocopy coupons, but they should at least let you use two per transaction since almost all printables allow you to print two of each. But, if that’s their policy, then there’s not a lot you can do!
If you have trouble getting your Safeway to accept ANY internet printables, make sure you print out their Internet Coupon Policy from their site.
For more info on shopping at Safeway, including a list of stores that do or don’t double coupons, read the Safeway FAQ. Unless otherwise noted, coupons mentioned are from newspaper inserts.
Meat, Dairy, and Frozen:
- 73% Lean Ground Beef 99 ¢/lb (3 lb Chub) – Eh, not that great of a price for fatty ground beef. I’d wait for a better sale.
- Split Chicken Breasts 99 ¢/lb – An OK price, nothing to get excited about.
- Rancher’s Reserve Beef 7-Bone Steak $1.59/lb
- Assorted Pork Chops $1.59/lb – Not that great of a price.
- Combo Deal: Safeway Sliced Bacon (12 to 16 oz) and Lucerne Large Eggs (dozen) $2.99 – Not sure how this could be a good deal, the best way to look at it is $2/lb for bacon and $1 for dozen eggs, but those prices are not that great unless you really need those items.
- Kraft Shredded or Chunk Cheese $1.99 (6-8 oz) – Use $1/2 printable (Coupons.com or KraftFoods.com) to get any variety for $1.49 or use $1/1 printable (here or here) to get the 2% variety for 99 ¢. I’d buy it for 99 ¢!
- Athenos Feta Cheese $2 – I’m hearing about this unadvertised sale from AFullCup.com. Use the $1/1 printable from SmartSource.com to get for $1, an awesome price!
Produce:
- Canteloupe 99 ¢ each – A good price if it weighs at least a couple of pounds.
- On-the-vine Tomatoes 99 ¢/lb – A great price for on-the-vine.
- O Organics Salads BOGO Free – Around $2 each when you buy two, a pretty good price for organic.
General Grocery and Household:
- Combo Deal: Mott’s Apple Juice and Keebler Chips Deluxe Cookies $2.99 – Another “deal” that isn’t. There’s a coupon for 55 ¢/2 Keebler cookies, but that means you have to buy two and it’s just not a good deal.
- Combo Deal: Doritos and 2 (20 oz) Pepsi $1.99 – This is a pretty good deal, as long as those Doritos are actually a full size bag! Says 11.75 to 14.5 oz, so I *think* it is.
- Hefty Foam Plates $1.99 (48 or 100 ct) with in-ad coupon – Keep in mind that the in-ad coupon does require a $20 minimum purchase. This is a good price, even better if you have any manufacturer’s coupons to go with it. I would guess we’ll see this price (or better) again this summer, so there’s no rush, especially with such a high minimum purchase
- Mission Tortilla Chips $2 – Decent price, has been much cheaper recently, though.
- Planters Peanuts $1.99 – Use $1/1 printable (Coupons.com or KraftFoods.com) to get for 99 ¢, good price!
- McCormick Grill Mates 99 ¢ – Use 50 ¢/1 to get it FREE!
- Baked Lays $3 – You can use the $1/1 from SmartSource.com to get them for $2. I’d wait for a better price.
Wow, when I said it was slow I didn’t think it was THAT slow, but there’s just not a whole lot this week! Please leave a comment if there’s anything I missed. This weekly ad review is part of The Grocery Gathering.
