What’s on your menu this week? I have to ‘fess up – I told you that chicken thighs at 88 ¢/lb weren’t that great of a deal, but I bought some anyway because that’s what sounded easy to cook this week! We are having lots of chicken – see my menu plan in the comments.
How was your budget last week? I overspent – ugh. I wanted to keep it at $90, but ended up spending $114.26 on groceries. Twenty-four dollars over budget!
I’ve been trying to keep my weekly budget at $90, but having spent significantly less than that for a couple of months earlier this year has severely depleted my pantry, so I’m having to buy things at *gasp* full price now and then so I can make meals! So at this point, my goal is to spend $100 per week. We’ll see how it goes!
Nope, I don’t have the lowest budget in the world, but like I said in the workshop on Tuesday, the goal should be to provide your family with what they need on the littlest amount possible, so for some people that’s $20 per and for others it may be much, much more. Just make sure you’re getting the best deals on whatever you’re buying!
Last night’s meal: Stovetop Roasted Chicken with Spicy Thai Sauce from Cook’s Illustrated – see my notes in the comments!
So far this week, I’ve spent $88. I was able to get a good amount of toilet paper, cereal, chicken, Gatorade (for my basketball-reffing husband – it’s almost time for the season to start!), frozen pizzas, granola bars, some produce, a few other things like laundry detergent and ice cream. I need to head to Sunflower Market to get some more produce and oats, but other than that, I am hopefully done shopping for the week!
