Jen asked a great question:
Are there other things I should be looking for in the newspaper besides the coupons (ie, other sections that have coupons, etc?). I usually just grab the inserts, the kids take the funnies, and I read the headlines on the first pages, but not much else.
When I get the Sunday newspaper, the first thing I grab is the coupon inserts, and then I look through the Parade and USA Today magazine inserts (Parade comes in both the Gazette and the Post, USA Today only comes in the Post). Sometimes there are coupons inside those magazine inserts – usually just one, or maybe two, and often there aren’t any. But it’s always worth 5 seconds of my time to check!
Then I usually check to see if there’s a Sunday insert from Safeway. If you’re in the Springs, this will only come in the Gazette. I check for this because often if Safeway does put out a Sunday ad, they’ll have in-ad coupons in it. It’s hit-or-miss as to whether or not you’ll be able to find an extra ad in the store, and even though you can view the ad online, you can’t print any coupons that were in the ad.
Then, I usually glance through the main and local sections of both the Gazette and the Post. Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, there will be a coupon or two in there. Once, I found a coupon for a free iced coffee at 7-11 inside the Denver Post, on the actual newspaper page. And sometimes in the Gazette, you’ll see a full-page ad from Albertsons announcing double coupons.
I think that’s it! Coupon inserts, Parade/USA Today, Safeway Sunday insert, and the main/local sections. Anything I’m missing?
