Clearance deals at Walmart and Target

Published March 31, 2010 by Carrie in Uncategorized

The Palmer Park Walmart had a hot deal on kids’ gloves yesterday – this rack in the kids’ department was full of gloves for $1!  I picked up three pairs since my kiddos spent this winter wearing mismatching gloves and my son may have even work pink gloves a couple of times. ;)

They also had various packages of Huggies and Pampers diapers on clearance for $8.  If you have any of those $3/1 Huggies printables, that would be a great deal!

And, Julie sent in this tip yesterday about clearance at Target:

Target on Academy and Union had bedding sets on clearance for 50% off and there is a printable coupon on their website for 20% off. Before the extra 20% off, some of the queen sets were $22 and change. The twins and fulls were cheaper and the kings were a bit more. Makes for a pretty good deal if you’re redecorating and don’t have a lot to spend. The sets include shams, comforter, sheets and bedskirt.

Spotted any other clearance deals lately?  Remember that clearance deals vary widely by location and sometimes sell out quickly, so these deals may or may not be going on at other stores in our area.

Kids Eat Free deals this weekend: Qdoba, Wahoo’s

Published March 31, 2010 by Carrie in Expired

There are two kids eat free deals going on this weekend! First, Qdoba Mexican Grill is offering free kids meals on Saturday and Sunday, April 3-4. One free kids meal for ages twelve and under with adult entree purchase. Don’t forget, if you have a military ID you can get a free drink with any entree purchase at Qdobas in Colorado Springs!  Thanks, Angela!

Then, Wahoo’s Fish Taco is serving free kids meals when your kiddos color this page and bring it in. Looks like it’s limited to one free kids meal per adult purchase, and a total of two free kids meals per family.

I’ve called the Wahoo’s location 3779 Bloomington St and they told me they are participating.

Here are many more ongoing kids eat free deals in Colorado Springs!

The coupon exchange: two regrets

Published March 31, 2010 by Carrie in Expired

You guys, we had a great time at the coupon exchange last night!  About 15 of us sat around eating, talking, and trading coupons at Jason’s Deli – garnering more than a few curious stares, I’m sure, but we were too busy to notice!

But, I have two regrets.  One is that I didn’t take any pictures.  I meant to – I even had my camera in my purse, but totally forgot.

The second is that I was having so much fun I totally forgot about Jason Deli’s free ice cream. How. On. Earth?!  It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Jason’s Deli, but still.

And I feel really bad for Michelle, who was eating at Jason’s Deli for the first time – what kind of a person am I who doesn’t even tell a newbie about the free ice cream?!

Michelle and anyone else who had never eaten there before – I’m sorry.  Hopefully you got enough coupons to make up for missing the free soft serve ice cream. ;)

Anyway, seriously, we had a great time and it was so good to meet some of you!  We’ll do it again, probably in 2-3 months, depending on how other things line up.

Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese (8 oz. Bars) – $1.25
Buy two and use $0.55/2 Philadelphia Cream Cheese

Rating: 4 – Safeway has them for $0.20 cheaper with the same coupon.

Tree Top Apple Juice or Cider – B1G1 Free, plus get a dozen eggs free
I’m having a hard time determing if the juice is B1G1 Free and you’ll also get a free dozen eggs, or if it’s buy one juice, get eggs free. Buy one get one free on the juice plus a dozen eggs is a decent deal; if it’s just buy one juice get eggs free, it’s hardly a deal at all.

Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits $0.98, plus earn a catalina for $4 on your next order when you purchase 6
Buy 6 and use 3 of the following coupons:
$0.30/2 Pillsbury Grands Biscuits – Coupons.com

or buy two and use $1/2 Lay’s Brand Kettle Cooked Chips 3/21/2010 SS Insert
Net cost at checkout: $0.98-1.48
Rating: 4-5 – $0.11 each at Albies if you’re going there.  I’m note positive these varities are included in the sale, and if not, then the rating without a coupon would just be a 3.

Pampers Dry Max or Extra Protection Diapers (jumbo pack) – $8.99
Use $2/1 Pampers Cruisers Diapers 2/21/2010 P&G Insert (exp 3/31/2010)
or $2/1 Pampers Diapers 3/14/2010 RP Insert
Net cost at checkout: $6.99
Rating: 3.5, maybe higher if you are brand loyal. Be on the lookout for clearanced Pampers Cruisers and Swaddlers, as they’ve recently changed and are clearancing out the old packages!

Overflowing closet? Donate some of your excess stockpile!

Published March 30, 2010 by Carrie in Expired

A Colorado Springs woman is doing an awesome thing – she’s organizing a toilet paper drive for the needy! Toilet paper is evidently one of the biggest needs and least-donated items for local outreach ministries:

Kathy Peterson of Colorado Springs decided to do something about the toilet paper scarcity. She’s helped organize six local donation sites, open Friday through April 10, where people can leave toiletries and household commodities. The items will be distributed to area organizations that help the needy.

If you’ve got an excessive toilet paper stockpile, this sounds like a great way to donate! Other needed items include: bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shaving supplies, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dish soap, cleaning supplies.

Now, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a smokin’ deal on toilet paper (wait, maybe that one-day Safeway thing was an exception), but I know we’ve gotten free or very cheap bar soap, hair care, shaving supplies, and cleaning supplies in recent sales, and, well, it makes more sense to donate a few items than to keep a two-year supply in your hall closet.  Here’s more information on donating to Kathy Peterson’s drive.  Thanks, Betsy!

Don’t forget that your donations to many organizations are tax-deductible, too – though you’ll probably want to make sure if that’s a big deal to you, as not all organizations that accept donations are.  I would talk to your CPA about whether to claim the retail value or the price paid, I’ve always been interested to know but haven’t ever asked!

What are your favorite places to donate toileties and non-perishable foods?
