New King Soopers March to Savings event: buy 8 save $4

Published March 17, 2010 by Carrie in Grocery Deals

New sales at King Soopers!

The “Cart Buster Savings Event” deals run through April 6th, I believe, and since I’ve featured them for several weeks now, I’m going to skip the ones there aren’t new coupons for.  Make sure to look at the ad and then check last week’s post to see coupon matchups and ratings.

Now, there is a new Buy 8 Save $4 starting this week – hooray!  Lots of great deals, and I’m sure you guys will uncover even more.  I’ll be keeping an eye on [scp] to see if we’ll be getting coupons for any of these items on Sunday – I sure hope so!

March to Savings Event – Buy 8 Save $4

This works just like other recent mega savings events like this: purchase eight participating products, save $4 instantly at checkout.  There is no limit to the number of $4 savings you can earn in one transaction, just make sure to carefully count that you purchase the participating items in multiples of 8.

The prices below indicate the savings after the $4 instant discount for purchasing 8 participating items.

glaceau vitaminwater (20 oz) or Powerade Sports Drink (32 oz) 50¢
Rating: 5

Mott’s Apple Juice (64 oz) 99¢
Rating: 4

Del Monte Tomatoes (14.5 oz) 49¢
Rating: 4-5

Bumble Bee Chunk Light White Tuna 49¢
Use 55¢/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: FREE! May actually be a moneymaker because the coupon will double up to 99¢ since that is how the product rings up before the instant discount
Rating: 5

Annie’s Natural Mac and Cheese 49¢
Rating: 5

Coca Cola Soft Drinks (2 liter) 79¢
Rating: 5

Oscar Mayer Basic Lunchables $1.19
Rating: 2-3 – these go on sale all the time for $1!

Daisy Sour Cream (16 oz) $1.39
Rating: 5 if you are brand-loyal, the store brand goes for $1 pretty regularly.

Oscar Mayer Meat Wieners (16 oz) $1.49
Rating: 3

Ken’s Salad Dressing or Lite Accents $1.49
Use $1/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: 49¢
Rating: 4-5 – I hesitate to say this is the lowest it will go… Salad dressing will be going on sale more and sometimes Ken’s goes for $1, making it free after the coupon. This is still a great price, just know that it may go cheaper (or it may not!).

Classico Pasta Sauce $1.49
Use $1.50/2 insert coupon (requires a purchase of beef)
Net cost at checkout: 74¢, plus the cost of the beef
Rating: depends – if you’re buying meat that’s a decent price, like Corned Beef, it’s a good deal. But if you just buy beef in order to use the coupon, the money that you’re saving on the pasta sauce is probably eaten up in the beef price.

Kraft or Sargento Cheese (bars or shreds, 6-8 oz) $1.67
Rating: 3 – wait to see if we get a coupon.

Kraft Singles $1.67
Use $1/1 printable from [coupons.com] (no longer available)
Net cost at checkout: 67¢
Rating: 4-5

Birdseye or C&W Vegetables (10-16 oz) $1.68
Rating: 2-3 – not sure this would even be a deal with a coupon.

Stouffer’s Entrees (5.5-21 oz) $1.77
Rating: ?

Kroger Deluxe Ice Cream (48 oz) $1.77
Rating: 4-5 if you’re not brand-loyal. Breyer’s is still cheaper at Safeway’s frozen food promo though.

Chips Ahoy! Cookies or Nabisco Ritz or Snack Crackers $1.99
Rating: 3

Krusteaz Muffin, Bar, Coffee Cake Mix or Ghirardelli Brownie Mix $1.99
Rating: 3

Planter’s Peanuts (16 oz) $1.99
Use $1.50/1 printable (must become fan)
Net cost at checkout: 49¢
Rating: 5 – thanks, Sunny!

International Delight (32 oz) $1.99
Use 55¢/1 insert coupon – says “one pint”, not sure if it’s valid on this size or not.  I would hope so since it’s a bigger size!
Net cost at checkout: 99¢
Rating: 5

Land O Lakes Half N Half (32 oz) $1.99
Rating: ?

Hershey’s Pieces (10-10.5 oz) $2
Rating: 3

Tyson Chicken (10-13.25 oz) or Armour Meatballs (14-16 oz) $2.18
Rating: 3 – wait to see if we get a coupon.

Ore Ida Potatoes (22-32 oz) $2.29
Rating: 3-4

TGI Friday’s Appetizers (7.6-10 oz) $2.29
Rating: probably a 4, but I’d probably wait to see if we get a coupon

Tostitos Tortilla Chips or Dip $2.29
Rating: 3

Lay’s Potato Chips $2.29
Use $1/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: $1.29
Rating: 3 – I would definitely way for a better sale on these, should be able to get them below $1 with the coupon.

Best Foods, Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, A.1. Steak Sauce, Pace Picante Sauce or Thick & Chunky Salsa $2.49
Rating: 2-3 – definitely wait for coupons and/or a better sale

Digiorno Pizza $3.97
Rating: 3.5 – wait for a coupon unless you are really brand loyal. May still be cheaper with Safeway’s frozen food sale.

California Pizza Kitchen Pizza $3.97
There’s a catalina deal going on: buy 2, get $1; buy 3 get $2, buy 4+ get $3 on your next order.
Buy four and pay $15.98 at checkout, plus earn a $3 catalina
Net cost at checkout: $12.98 total or $3.24
Rating: probably a 4-5 for this brand.

Scotch Brite Sponge (1 ct) 50¢
Use 75¢/2 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: FREE!
Rating: 5

Irish Spring Bar Soap (3 ct) $1
Use 50¢/2 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: 50¢ each
Rating: 5

Speed Stick Deodorant $1
Rating: 3, maybe a 4 if you’re brand-loyal. I’d wait for coupons.

Aquafresh Toothpaste $1
Rating: 3.5, maybe higher if you’re brand-loyal.

Aquafresh (Advanced) Toothpaste or Toothbrushes
Use 75¢/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: $1
Rating: probably a 4 if you are partial to premium toothpaste or this brand.

O-Cel-O Sponges, Scotch-Brite Scrubber, Pads or Mini Lint Rollers $1
Use 75¢/2 insert coupon (valid on scour pads only)
Net cost at checkout: 50¢
Rating: 5, probably a 3-4 for the items there aren’t coupons out for.

I’m fizzling out here… Don’t see anything else that’s that great of a deal. There are some smokin’ hot deals, and some not so hot. Make sure you look at the original prices while you’re shopping and deciding what’s a good deal and what’s not. Some items are marked down significantly, some are barely on sale.

The ad says there are over 1,200 items to choose from, so I’m sure we’ll uncover some more great deals!

Meat, Dairy, and Frozen

80% Lean Ground Beef (1 or 3 lb roll) $1.69/lb
Rating: 4 – a good price per pound, but I would personally rate this lower – prefer to buy fresh ground at this price.

Kroger Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts $1.69/lb
Rating: 3-4 a pretty frequently sale price at Safeway and Albertsons, but it rarely goes this low here. If you only shop at King Soopers, this is a stock-up price!

USDA Choice Boneless Chuck, Bottom Round Roast, or Round Tip Roast $2.99/lb
Rating: 3

Kroger Corned Beef Brisket Point Cut $1.49/lb
Rating: 5 – guess it’s not going to go any lower this St. Patrick’s Day!

Kroger Cheese (16 oz chunks or shreds) $2.50
Rating: 3

Yoplait Yogurt (4-8 pack, selected) $2
Use $1/1 printable from [coupons.com]
Net cost at checkout: $1
Rating: 3 – there are also 40¢ coupons from [coupons.com] and [smartsource.com], as well as insert coupons.

Produce

Green Cabbage 33¢/lb
Rating: 3

Dole Salad Blend BOGO Free
Buy two and use one $1/1 coupon (March/April Optimum Wellness Booklet)
Net cost at checkout: $2.59 for two or $1.30 each
Rating: 4 – remember that [KSpolicy] only allows one coupon for a BOGO sale.

Strawberries (2 lb) $3.88
Rating: 3 – I saw these yesterday in the store, and they looked great!

California Cuties Clementines (5 lb) $4.99
Use $1/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: $3.99
Rating: 3.5 – cheaper at Albertsons this week.

General Grocery and Household

Mission Tortillas Caseras $1.29 (through 4/06)
Use $1/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: 29¢
Rating: 5

Mission Burrito-sized Tortillas $2 (through 3/23)
Use $1/1 insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: $1
Rating: 4-5 – the Caseras are a cheaper cost per ounce, but this is a great price if you prefer the burrito size!

Reach Toothbrushes or Floss $1 (through 3/23)
Use $1/1 or B1G1 Free insert coupon
Net cost at checkout: FREE to 50¢
Rating: 5
